Speaking of Crocks of Shat

I was thinking about how alot of Cotto fans are jumpin all over Floyd azz for perhaps rematching a Split desicion with Delahoya and he is ducking Cotto Etc.. So as Arum matches him up with Alfonso Gomez and most justify Gomez will be tough and Cotto needs a gimme fight... I beg to ask why if Floyd is being a so called pussy and running from Cotto ::** and you are so anxious to throw Cotto to the wolves and get dissected by Floyd, why dosent the Messiah of the Welterweight division and take on all comers Why dosent Arum put your boy in the ring with Joshua Clottey????

I mean most scream from the tree tops that Cotto is the end all be all, yet he has never beat a star fighter in his prime at 140 or 147, why dosent he fight Clottey who would be a legitimate young star fighter in his prime who is as rough and tumble as they come?

Just a point to ponder on in midst of all the Floyd bashing and Cotto Pontification ;)

Dont get me wrong I am a Cotto fan myself, but I just get a laugh on how most will rip a fighter and then glorify the actions of another or talk around or avoid certain things that are apparent...

Arum makes his matches and I am sure he has a majority say on who he fights, but like I said for the level and esteem his fans elevate him but yet no star prime fighters on his resume

Well JT, the potential matchup being Cotto vs. PBF for 2009.
Arum will try his best not to matchup Cotto with any hard tasks 'till then BUUUT judging by how things are going he's gonna have no choice but to have Cotto fight either Clottey, Cintron, Williams or Margarito.

Chances are we'll see Cotto fight Clottey or Margarito. I don't see Arum facig him vs. Williams not now at least they feel they've pretty much got the PBF there if all goes well for both.

What wouldn't surprise is if the WBA comes down on him and makes him fight Yuriy.

You can't compare Mayweather and Cotto directly as they are both at different stages in their careers.

Mick I know you see the full spectrum of things and are very fair to all fighters in your analysis of them, but I kinda geared this to others who are superfans and ignore some of the apparent things... Like the No Star prime fighters and the fact that he has never beat a champ for his belts always been eliminators and vacant belts yet he is the best and will trounce the rest albeit might unfold that way, but lets not get carried away already.

I appreciate a good fan of a fighter Lord knows I have my favorites, but when you cross over and hold your nose up at another fighter for career moves and shite all over them at the expense of elevating your fighter when the credentials arent cashing checks that the fans mouths are writing.. I wish Cotto well, but many have been starting hate threads and comments at the expense of Making Cotto out to be Boogeyman, when indeed his underlying credentials arent there... From a career standpoint Cotto isint on Delahoya's level now yet

Reguardless of what floyd does in the ring, he isn't wel liked and that's the basis for 99% of the crap he gets. Not too many people can bash him in the ring where it counts so these debates to bash his character is all we're left with. I like cotto as well which makes it worse cause it's not cotto fans, he's just the flavor of this month, it's usually that people want floyd to loose not that they care if whoever he is fighting wins.

Well the reason I have no problem with Cotto fighting Gomez is because it is clear to me that that fight is just a tune up to fight Margarito later in the year. Margarito is a huge threat and I would go as far as to say he is a bigger threat than anybody Floyd has faced at Welter. Of course I might be getting ahead of myself as the Cotto Margarito fight is not a done deal but lets not forget that the only reason Cotto has not already faced Margarito is because he lossed.

I am a bit scepticle at times about Cotto, mainly for what JT Rock already pointed out that Cotto has yet to face a champion.

j.t :coolclick: i was actually thinking of the same point. i don't see why cotto is fighting gomez, i didn't like it when joe fought manfredo and i sure am not liking cotto fighting gomez. I just don't agree in elites fighting the reality show contenders cause i don't think gomez or manfredo has what it takes to be elites. I was hoping cotto would fight and beat margarito but gomez is a step backwards for cotto. it is almost like floyd fighting mitchell, but atleast its not brussel like biblo said. Im ofcourse more dissapointed in floyd though, i just don't like how his playing that retired card to draw in more fans in his next fight. Plus his avoiding fighting good competition after good competition imo. I really don't respect that especially when your dubbed as p4p #1.

Actually, Brusselles was a title eliminator in Mayweather's FOURTH WEIGHT DIVISION, Sharmba was Mayweather's first fight at welterweight which happened to be his FIFTH WEIGHT DIVISION.

Let's see Cotto take on somebody mediocre at 168, because that is the same as Mayweather fighting someone mediocre (Brusselles) at 140.


140 was Mayweather's 4th weight class

168 would be Cotto's 4th weight class


Hence the term..... P4P ;)

I'm not trying to defend Cotto - Gomez, because like JT says the fight is a crock of shit and nothing more than a gimme for Cotto. I like both fighters, but I don't buy the justification that this fight will expose Cotto to a larger market of "casual" boxing fans. The 1st Contender show took place 3 years ago, had poor ratings, and any "casual" fans that the show attracted have long since become ligitimate boxing fans or have forgotten about the sport and the fighters from the show entirely.
The criticism that PBF receives for his choice of opposition is due to the fact that he proclaims himself to be not only the best current boxer (which very few will debate), but also the best boxer ever. This opens him up to all of the criticism about his choice of opposition, which I think is fair - if PBF wants to be considered the best boxer of all time, he (and his fans) are going to have to justify it accordingly. Also, Cotto seems to be much more well-liked than PBF in regards to his public image, which certainly softens any criticism he would recieve about his opposition.

Cotto fought four top 10 WW(as ranked by RING mag) in his last 4 fights. He is now taking 1 easier fight to SET UP A FIGHT WITH MARGARITO. Cotto has fought more natural WW than Floyd so I don't really see what the argument is and when he beats Gomez and fights Tony,he will EASILY have faced better fighters at WW than Floyd. Sooo,again,what's your point?

And I'd like to add,Williams is tied up,Tony should be fighting Judah,neither Floyd nor Oscar had the balls to fight Cotto so who do you propose he fights?Clottey is waiting for his mandatory v that coward Cintron.

And JT,no offence,but if you ACTUALLY BELIEVE that Oscar Floyd 1 was a split decision,you need to learn how to score fights. Mayweather won that fight easily.Stop trying to make excuses to make yourself feel better,facts are facts,Floyd's body was breaking down,he needed a break and now he's back all of a sudden. And I'd like to add,I don't think Floyd is ducking Cotto but he's not exactly eager to face him for one reason or another. ANd i propose that if he continues to not fight against a natural WW,a dangerous WW, at 147,147,he should be stripped.

Im Cotto fan and a Mayweather fan they are slightly different situations. 1 is that Cotto has had fought 5 tough opponents in a row so he deserves one easy fight otherwise his career won't last long, when is the last time you have seen Cotto take an easy fight ?? and anyway Gomez isn't that easy of a fight anyway. The difference is with Mayweather is that he is the P4P number 1 and people expect a lot more, than a rematch with ODLH who Mayweather already comfortably beat on points by at least 3 or 4 rounds. I can understand that Mayweather will make a lot more money for ODLH fight but Mayweather already has enough money he can swim in it. I think he should start focusing on sealing the deal on his greatness.

I don't think Mayweather is ducking Cotto but after Mayweather beats ODLH and Cotto beats Gomez and one other top Welterweight. If Mayweather then doesn't fight Cotto i have to say as a Mayweather fan i will very disappointed.

And Mayweather was already at his 3rd weight class, and lets not forget Mayweather beat some of the best fighters at Super Featherweight, Lightweight, and beat the best fighter at Super Featherweight at that time aka Genaro Hernandez, and beat one of the best fighters at Lightweight at that time aka Jose Luis Castillo.
