Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
It would be a HUGE domestic match,it's a winnable fight imo and would make him lots of £££ AND get him a win over arguably the second best 140 pounder.I'm not saying it has to happen right away but, I read and continue to read everywhere that he does not want to fight Witter because Witter keeps bad mouthing him? Erm....I'm sorry, isn't this the same Hatton that was saying noone wants to see Floyd fight,he's boring, mocking his training etc etc? Isn't that how he got the Floyd fight?
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
Because his confidence is severely knocked and in his current mental state he could be beaten by Witter.

That's why I said,it doesnt have to happen right away. He can build his confidence back up again but he appears to rule the fight out totally in interviews and comments I have read. And he ruled it out before the Foyd fight too.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
Sorry I didn't detect that part.
I feel they well fight. It's a commonly held sentiment among other boxing fans, that perhaps Hatton was saving Witter for his send-off, a last hurrah so to speak and he hadn't accounted for Witter making so much noise. It will happen, I think Ricky knows his legacy will be tarnished if he's seen to duck Witter so I feel they'll fight.
I also feel the fight may arise sooner rather than later. Perhaps at the end of this year, if mandatories don't get in the way.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
I should think Hatton is ducking Witter.
Only time Witter was beaten was when he had to loose 15pounds in 2 weeks.
Witter is not an orthodox fighter by any means.
Also there'll be much more money in fighting a half rate American rather than a top class European boxer as we all know.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
yep as long as they both win next fight or two this fight WILL happen. Hopefully the excitement Havye v Macca generates will force the momentum to line up other blockbuster domestic bouts - and this one tops the bill (along with
As said Ricky may need a fight or two to get his mental state back before he is ready for Witter. Let's grant him an easy one first - he deserves at least that.
But as stated I can see this one happening late this year or next spring at the latest.
Just hope Ricky hasn't left too much behindin that MGM ring.... :-\
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
Hatton won't fight Witter no matter what in my eyes its pretty sad really Hatton says he does'nt want to fight Witter because of all the name calling and slagging off Witter has done towards Hatton. But is'nt this how Hatton got his fight with Mayweather???
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
It will happen as soon as Witter gets himself more of a name in the states, by beating dhop he does this and then that means more money for both fighters...

In all seriousness, do you believe that one throwaway comment triggered the fight between Hatton and Maywether?
Were you not listening when the commentators said that the parties had been in negotiations for up to two years before?
And in reality, one comment is hardly comparable to years of demeaning, disrespectful and in some cases downright immature slurs?
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
Hatton won't fight Witter in the future for the same reason he hasn't fought him in the past -- he'll probably lose. There are endless excuses for not fighting him in the future too so this is one fight that I never see happening. Easier to live with people claiming you ducked him than being embarrased in the ring.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
Hatton won't fight Witter because he knows Witter will probably beat him i don't think Hatton could handle another loss.

Hatton has never shyed away from any opponent.
He fought Tszyu and Mayweather. Two ATG's and in neither fight did he run or take a step back.
He will not be afraid of Junior.
I respect Junior Witter but the same cannot be said for him, he was intimidated out of a fight by Zab Judah.

He's claiming to be a world champion but until he fights Witter he can't even claim to be Northern Area champion. He fought endless has beens and never wasses between winning the WBU belt and Tszyu but unquestionably shied away from fighting Witter, otherwise they'd have fought around that time. Hatton certainly isn't confident of beating him, is he ?
EDIT : And he got in the ring with Judah on a few day's notice as a novice pro. He didn't fight nearly 40 tomato cans before fighting a world champion in his prime.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
It shocks me to think this but maybe just maybe hatton really belives he cant beat witter. Maybe he knows something we don't see.
Re: Why doesn't Hatton get over himself and fight Witter?
IMO Hatton has a bit of Gerry Cooney syndrome....Like Hatton Cooney had a devout fan following that praised him and felt he was better then he really was...(though I am not trying to take away from any of his skills nor Hattons both very good fighters,,,just that their fans seemed to think they were unbeatable)....A lot of pressure to have on your back...besides the already hugh amount of pressure of being a top tier fighter...
When Cooney lost to Holmes it destroyed his psyche....he felt not only like he lost the biggest bout of his career but he let down every supporter that wished him well,,,bet money on him etc....also let him know he was beatable...and when a fighter who is undefeated for so long and so highly thought of they begin to believe their own hype and press....then the loss is effected in the mind the most...
Cooney was never the same fighter after that...IMO unless Hatton recovers soon he will never be the same either...
Hatton will still be a championof course and right now still the best 140lbr in the world but...his mind set may end up costing him fights in the future that he could have won..
