Hopkins & calzaghe are guaranteed $12 million a piece
Its reported on boxingscene. I am amazaed that with such a huge gurantee this fight is still on regular HBO. I pray that this will start the trend of more mega fights being telecast on regular HBO
Re: Hopkins & calzaghe are guaranteed $12 million a piece
Where's the incentive?Give the winner 12 million and the loser one million, now that would make for a great fight, that would make Hopkins fight harder than the fear of getting beat by a white boy.

I seriously don't understand where this money is going to come from. Obviously the gate's not going to bring in any significant amount of $24M, and I can't imagine HBO is willing to pay much for this given the poor viewership Calzaghe's last (also non-PPV) fight got. So if there's $0 in PPV revenue, honestly, where the hell are they getting $24M from (in addition to all the money they'll need to spend on overhead, promotion, etc.)? This makes absolutely no sense to me.

I'm not so sure... Hopkins is certainly fairly well known these days, he's one of the only names most of my friends will ever bring up when talking about boxers, it seems most young guys at least know the name, and I'm sure many people will want to see him fight for free... I think they figure it will be bound to do well since it's on regular TV, I'm sure it will get excellent ratings, especially if they do a good job promoting it. Do most people in the UK get HBO?? Or will they just carry it on another network live overseas?? Either way, long as it's on TV on both sides of the pond I can't imagine it not doing well. What surprises me more than anything is that Calzaghe is making as much as Hop..

Maybe European TV rights. or since Joe calzaghe is so popular in Europe that it might be PPV over there coz hatton-mayweather did more PPV buys in Europe than in North America
Re: Hopkins & calzaghe are guaranteed $12 million a piece
HBO had paid 6 million dollars for the license to show the fight in the United States.
As reported by Dan Rafael of ESPN.com/boxing
Re: Hopkins & calzaghe are guaranteed $12 million a piece
I think that they are going to price the Thomas & Mack expensively and make most of the money off of the gate. But yeah, 12 Million for Hopkins and Calzaghe both and HBO is only throwing in 6 Million? Something doesn't sound right.
