Wow I did not know that Adolpho Washington had such an amatuer career. Dunno who Paul Vaden was/is though.
I dunno if it hurt these guys, maybe they stayed amatuer too long. But for most pros a strong amatuer background is a must.
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
I think a lot of fighters burn themselves out in the amateurs or become too used to the amateur style and have a hard time making the transition.

Kind of hard to say they were ruined. Except for Guinn all were title holders. I see it more as pros and amateur just being so different.
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
Have to go with Bojado, the amateurs made him believe that he was good
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
Tefelio Stevenson
Felix Savon
etc.
etc.
etc.
LoL
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
I am sure there have been guys that have been ruined by not having a good amateur background.
I know Hasim didn't have any (But I am not arguing it matter for him one way or another).
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
As for guys who didn't need an amteur background:
JCC jr.
Marvin Hagler
Bernard Hopkins
Ronald Hearns
Re: Pro fighters ruined by the amateurs!
Marvis Frazier 56-2
But not only that the style he fought in the amateurs was considered unsuitable for the pro's,so even though he has decent pro-record he was constantly fighting schizophrenic
He won 56 amateur fights going for points, now people keep telling him has to knock people out
