Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
From reading the many different posts on Saddo's it has come to my attention that there is a lot of debate going on regarding Hatton's unwillingness to fight Witter at this moment in time.
Nobody, apart from Hatton and his team really know what the deal is, but here's my take on it.
They will fight Witter, i'm 99% sure of it, providing Witter doesn't lose any silly fight (which he shouldn't). I'm actually surprised that many of you haven't actually thought about it in this way.
Hatton's camp don't want the Witter fight to be an event like Urango and Collazo was, they want it to be an event along the lines of the fights with Castillo and Mayweather. Realistically, if Pac and Diaz don't move up to fight him, Witter is Hatton's only chance of earning mega money again. Hatton aint fighting no more welterweights and the belt holders at 140 are hardly household names. However, if Witter keeps performing and grabbing constant attention by continously calling Hatton out, which he will do, Witter will become that one household name that Hatton needs to fight to earn big money. They are both British fighters, it has the potential to be as big as Benn - Eubank. Witter is still a few HBO dates away from being popular enough for the fight to be a huge event. 2009 you will all see. Mark my words....
It's very smart business. Trust me, if Witter keeps performing, this fight will be huge.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
It's not about Witter performing..
it's about Ricky being forced into taking a fight he DOESN'T want.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
Yeah, but the fight is huge business now.
It's never going to capture the American imagination like the Mayweather fight, so why not just do it now? The British market will eat it up, along the same lines as Benn-Eubank was...
IMO Hatton should have a tune up, shake out any cobwebs and then get Witter in the ring.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
Witter is 33. Hatton camps wants to wait a couple more years. Have Witter age a couple more years. Have him lose a little of his speed and reflexes. Make him less of a threat. Than Hatton will jump at that the chance to fight him

Look this is from 7 years ago ::**

I was looking forward to this inevitable fight ::**
*Check Hatton's Witter impersonation... Class ;D ;D ;D
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
It's true that the longer they let it wait the bigger the event will be but it's a fight Hatton doesn't really want to take. If Witter loses in the meantime Hatton will be delighted. But Hatton is going back to Vegas asap and even if Ricky loses a fight he's expected to win in a few years and is looking for one big final fight at Man Ciy's football ground he'll pick somebody he can definitely beat. He isn't going to want to go out on a loss and especially not losing to Witter. He's got two years left and at 140 he's holding all the cards so he can do what he wants.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
Great find on that vid Fenster CC
I remember watching that live and Ricky getting in the ring with him..... BUT dont remember the bit which shouts at me from that clip now.
Ricky Said you dont sell tickets no ones intrested you have been boring to watch.
Witter asked the crowd if they want to see it and they all cheer for the fight.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
The thing that cries out to me is when Witter goads Ricky into saying 'make the fight'. He just doesn't mean it.
Also when Witter says - 'Frank says 'he's my boy, I'm going to get some bums for him to fight and protect him'.
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
Hatton does not owe it to Witter to fight him. Hatton has proven he is an economically viable commodity in boxing, and as such he has every right to only fight other economically viable opponents. No one in the goddamn world give a fuck about Witter outside of England, and I don't think they even give a damn. The notion that he owes it to anyone to fight a guy like Witter who would give him a pathetic payday even in England is silly. Hard core boxing fans (and I include myself in this group) have entirely unrealistic expectations in terms of the types of fights that should happen.

Well, of course...it was a Witter fight! Naturally the people in attendance would be Witter fans. The fact of the matter is that outside of England no one knows who the fuck Witter is, and even in England I don't think they give a damn about him. He needs to bring more to the table economically to make himself a viable opponent for Ricky.

Stop trying to justify Hatton's cowardliness.

He's offered to take the short end of any purse. There's no question Witter wants the fight.

How many opponents are there more economically viable than Witter? Possibly Gotti at MSG assuming HBO will pay for it. But Hatton vs. Witter at a football stadium in England at two dollars to the pound is right up there with any other prospective fight.

Maybe you project stuff onto foreign fighters from your own personality in order to make you feel better about yourself. Or maybe it's the differences between foreign fighters and yourself that set you off like this? For instance, Joe Calzaghe is a good-looking winner. Maybe that's why you're like this?
Re: Hatton - Witter. Here's the situation!
The situation is Witter has been chasing this fight since 2000 were now in 2008 and still no fight Hatton is the one who does'nt want it Hatton is number 1 light welterweight in the world Witter is number 2 and the WBC champ. This fight would be massive now in the UK Hatton says why should he give somebody a massive payday when he has been calling him names and slagging him off but Witter has said he would take a small purse just to make the fight happen. Also Mallinaggi has been slagging Hatton off but Hatton would be more than happy to fight him and give him a payday i think Hatton's main problem is he has alot to lose losing to Witter would finish him losing to Mayweather has hurt Hatton but losing to Witter would mentally demolish him he would'nt comeback from it.
