Frank Warren wins purse bid for Guzman-Arthur
So if Guzman signs fight would be somewhere in Great Britain, according to fightnews Edinburgh, Glasgow or London. Tentative date April 26, 2008.
If Guzman doesn't sign Arthur immediately becomes champ.
Don't know what to think about this, haven't seen anything in Arthur that makes me think he could beat Guzman. Then again haven't seen a whole lot of Arthur but doesn't even seem like many of the Brits on here thinks he can win. Guzman needs a bigger fight but if there's just nothing out there I guess this will be it.
Re: Frank Warren wins purse bid for Guzman-Arthur
No chance Arthur beats a one-armed Guzman. Frank is cashing in on Arthur before he gets stopped again by some domestic super-feather.
Re: Frank Warren wins purse bid for Guzman-Arthur
I guess Arthur's time masquerading as a potential world force is up. Guzman will beat him on the bridle...
..unless the fight doesn't happen, therefore Arthur is named new WBO champ and will be ready, willing and able to defend against obscure no-names and domestic types.

It's got to be that the fight won't happen. Arthur gets be be a pretend champ and defend against a couple of east European roadsweepers then he moves up to lightweight, because there's no way he can make the weight much longer.

AS it goes, maybe the plan is for Arthur to fight Guzman. Arthur-Khan could be a fight that makes sense. He gets battered by Guzman, blames the weight making, moves up to lightweight and gets battered by Khan.
Guzman can soften him up for the real money maker.
Re: Frank Warren wins purse bid for Guzman-Arthur
Dont matter where this fight takes place Arthur is going to be on the end on a 1sided battering.

But if Arthur gets the battering we expect from Guzman he won't exactly be a mad ticket seller for Khan. And it's not like Frank to put his guy in a fight where he has no chance.
So.
1. Warren thinks Arthur is shot and only has one chance to sell a lot of tickets, hence theGuzman fight.
2. Warren knows Guzman won't bother defending his title so is going the east European roadsweeper/eventual matchup with Khan route.
Who knows? Anyway, if Arthur does get in the ring with Guzman at least it'll almost certainly mean no more articles where he compares himself to Sugar Ray leonard. :)

It'll be an easy night or Guzman

Before his last fight he was talking about how the great fighters like Leonard and Hearns had all fought the best at the time in big fights in Vegas and that's what he wanted to do too. He was doing the same thing before Gomez too. He may well not believe it himself and only be doing it to sell tickets to the people with tartan for brains, but it's still ridiculous.

Arthur isn't a good ticket seller. He's had decent exposure on terrestrial though, so matching him with Khan (Khan being all that matters) could work.
They brought Katsidis over to finish off Earl, before feeding his remains to Khan.
This could be along similar lines.
Although 2 is still the jolly.

I remember someone posting an interview with Arthur here, just before his last fight. He basically said how much he, so inspired by Calzaghe, would like to unify... The British journalist (was it from the BBC?) of course it eat raw, and served it as promotion for Arthurs defense of his world title.
Somehow Arthur failed to mention that he doesnt even hold a real world title, or that he isnt even nowhere good enough to unify the WBO-title...
But hey, talking about unification makes you look good in the press!
Re: Frank Warren wins purse bid for Guzman-Arthur
I seem to remember a few weeks ago reading something where it seemed like Guzman was interested in the fight, who knows if that holds up.
