Feelin depressed after sparring..
I got thrashed by someone 40pounds lighter than me today..he hit me with many clean shots duing sparring..i can take his punches but the problem is that i cant seem to land my own because i keep end up just trying to defend. The thing with me is that i sort of get worried when i miss 1 or 2 shots..any advices? Whether i should just trade punches or anything..at the end of a day like this i really feel like a useless piece of crap...ooh yea and hes a southpaw..
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
One thing you might want to do is drive your jab a bit harder, not clobber the guy,its only sparring, but give him a reason to stay away from you
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
If he's been doing it a lot longer, he's going to get the better of you. If he's 40lb lighter, he's probably naturally faster. If you are less experienced and heavier, you should feel good if you land a few clean punches.
At this point in my training, I'm overmatched everytime I get into the ring. I'm often in the ring with a guy 20 lbs lighter than me, but with 20 amatuer fights and his father is his trainer. We spar with certain rules and limitation so that I don't get killed, but I'm encouraged to throw hard at the kid, because he is getting ready to compete. Trust me, I might be 190 to his 170, but that weight don't mean crap compared to experience and skill. Nothing lets you know the things you need to work on like getting hit. After the sessions, I talk and think about things did right and wrong, and I feel successful to land a few clean ones on a kid 15 years younger with 10x the experience.
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
Honestly i think i deserve it..i admit i was overconfident before sparring and i DID NOT even throw a proper jab i was just waiting for oppurtunities and therefore i got hit so many times..later on when i still did not hit him i panicked and started getting hit even more. Btw hes abt 150 im abt 190, he has been training for about 2years i have been training for about 7months he has had a couple o fights, and i havent fought yet..
Thanks guys i think the next time i spar with him i'll jab hard and keep him away, he hit me with CLEAN body shots like 10-20times, i don't think i'll clobber him up though as i got nothing against him i'll just keep him away like trainer monkey said
One more thing, should i jab or throw lead rights since hes lefty? What about left hooks too?
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
Jab out while stepping to your right, itll keep his jab off you
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
on the plus side if you find sparring easy and 'win' it all the time then you're not learning anything.

This is actually a very good point, when I have a fighter who is just nuking people,Ive learned to worry about what Im not seeing, and what they arent learning

Thanks man that made me feel a lot better..to know that at least i am learning, anyway my coach knows that i got good power and therefore he always lets me spar with people more experienced than me..to think of it i haven't sparred anyone whom i could just handle easily..
The last time i sparred with a guy he had also trained for more than a year and i trained for only about 3months and it was even worse than this..
I guess its just for my own good..and to think of it i did improve quite a lot after those 'whooping' sessions i received in total...lol
Re: Feelin depressed after sparring..
With a guy so much more expierienced than you, you should only be engaging in conditional sparring.
However, being a son of a trainer he may well get priveleges. I know this from expierience. However, I feel getting beat on only inspires me to come back harder so just get your head right and look at every second in the ring with him as an opportunity for revenge.
