115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=12475
an article about the 115 pound division, talking about the two 115 pound Taylor-Pavlik undercard fights .
The division is deep for people that pay attention to the smaller guys, Mijares, Fernando Montiel, Martin Castillo, Alexander Munoz, Vic Darchinyan, Z Gorres, Dmitri Kirilov, Jose Navarro, Nashiro, some young guys like AJ Banal. Not sure what Arce's doing, if he's sticking at 118 or going back to 115.
You could make a case for it being the second best division. What else is there besides welter? There's 130 which has the stars but isn't all that deep, 122's pretty good, who knows what middle's like, that depends on Taylor and Pavlik and where they end up after this next fight. 168's pretty good. Cruiser's aren't bad actually.
Anyway, agree, disagree?
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
Don't forget about Nonito Donaire, im starting to think his going to dominate the whole flyweight division. His the complete package, slick, skilled, fast, and packs power.
A Definite future top 10 p4pder.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
I'm a big fan of Donaire but like you say for now he's at 112. That's another good division though.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
I think after the rematch between pac-jmm the featherweight division will likely get dull. i don't think jmm will stick around much longer and pac will be moving up to lightweight. Guzman is likely to move up too, and Valero should also. That will pretty much live nobody at 130 unless jmm doesn't retire. Eric and Mab are gone, and if eric will ever fight again im sure itll be at 135 not 130.
The Welterweight is still a deep division with cotto, williams, margarito, shane, floyd and a few others like cintron. This division is likely to stay stronger then the featherweights now that eric and mab are gone and jmm is soon to follow :D
I agree flyweight is or atleast is one of the divisions to watch, its very stack will potential great matches.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
yeah that's why I was saying 130's got the stars but not really a ton of depth. There's JMM, Pac, Guzman, Valero and those are really the major names. Isn't Soto moving up to 135 to face David Diaz?
Linares might move up to 130 one of these days but I don't expect it real soon.

Good post on bringing up the little guys...Have some rep on me....
It is not just the 115lbrs though it is pretty much every division 126 and under that has some great fighters if they were bigger guys the sport would be PPV every weekend....The little guys though do not get the coverage they should...The are fast paced and many have great KO's...
Just a reminder of who is out there at 126 and under to get an idea of how much talent is there....(The list is not in any order or by division just off the top of my head)
Solis, Lineres, Guerreo, John, Oliver, De Leon, Molitar, Cordoba, Caballero, Marquez, Vazquez, Condes, Rachman, Solis, Calderon, Sosa, Segura, Penalosa, Arce, Hasegawa, Sidorenko, Bakhtin, Doniare, Sakata, Mijares, Darchinyan, Gorres, Mabuza, Sahaprom....
I can remember anymore just the top tier so to speak but everyone gets the idea,,,,Plus there are a ton of guys we never heard of really due to exposure with top talent in those divisions....I wish the media would give these guys more of a push on major fight undercards and generate soome interest

Most Donaire's win were from 115. I'm assuming that's his natural fighting weight, not 112.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
I still say the WW division is the best... it has so many good fighters coming, up and so many good fighters in 140 that will grow into Welterweight by the time they reach their peak that it is still the best division with the best fighter in the world.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
I think pretty much everyone says 147's the best, just thinking of what's the second best division.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
I actually like 122 better. Vasquez, Marquez, Ponce, Caballero, Molitor, and up and comers Martinez Concepcion and Bautista.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
You could definitely make a case that 122's better, its got the bigger stars in Vazquez, Marquez. 115 might be a bit deeper, just depends on what you're looking for.
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
At 115 I can't see any of them beating Mijares.
Not Munoz, not Montiel, or Kirilov.
I can see Mijares beating all 3 with Montiel or Kirilov giving him the most problems.
Would love to see him move up to fight Hasegawa & Sidorenko I can def. see him beating Sidorenko. Hasegawa would be a great fight.
I said this a while back but by the time Mijares career is over his name will be brought up when talking about Mexican greats alongside Canto & Roman. :)
Re: 115 pounds: The Other Best Division in Boxing?
Awesome read although Oum,I don't think we are allowed to post articles from that site.Should double check just in case. I love the little guys, they are awesome to watch and the writer makes an excellent point,it has a hugely exciting division but I think 168,when the matches start and Pavlik moves up,will be better.
