hitting arms / elbows in a match ?
hi,
today i stumbled upon an interesting notice here - something about punching your opponent into the arms and areas around elbows - is that a legal punch? i mean, it sounds quite dangerous to me to punch into the elbow intentionally, especially from the outside of it or below.. ::)
i know these punches cannot be scored, but can i get warned / DQ for using them?
i was also wondering about the water intake on the day of the match - how much water should i drink - or not drink? :) and when to eat and what as well, as the match is taking place in the afternoon / evening.. :lickish:
thanks for any info!
.

If you punch an elbow you will only hurt your hand. They are not illegal, but are not scored as punches, you are not allowed to punch below the waistline(naval), the back, or behind the head.
You want to take in as much water as you can before a fight unless you are getting weighed as you will weigh more, but do not drink lots 30mins before a fight.
As you are in a fight eat breakfast, lunch and 2hrs before the fight(remember it can be earlier than expected) eat some food. You can also eat a banana about 10mins before a fight
Re: hitting arms / elbows in a match ?
Its never ever been suggested to attack an elbow point, full stop.
It has been hinted at that you can finish an arm by trapping an arm leaning back and then attacking an elbow point from the outside when it is fully extended.
There is a post that suggests that you can attack an out stretched arm ,like a jab that follows you around.
IF someone outreaches you like that ,why not attack the attack the offening arm?
From underneath is best ,the iunderside of the bicep is vunerable and numbing when hit hard.
It is leagal to attack the arms. its not leagal to hold one but you can controll them with a push and you can follow them and controll them easily from the elbow poiints as that is the point of balance control on a fighter.
To follow an attacking arm back and pin it at the elbow or to sweep their elbow further through with a glove on it while countering them with the other glove is a great tactic becuase you can feel what their intentions are through the light contact and you can stop them turning into you or you can fold it in and choke them out from using that side for that instant.
Of course you dont attack a bent elbow.
That should just go, without having to be said at all.
Re: hitting arms / elbows in a match ?
i think thats stupid
1.your wasting precious enegy
2.your not scoring
Re: hitting arms / elbows in a match ?
IT is stupid to do anything all of the time .
I agree to have that in your mind as a 'major thing' to do ,would be stupid .
No idea or technique should ever be taken that way.
There is a time and a place for everything in a ring;
it s also stupid to only be able to think one way .
There are millions of boxers in the world and less than a small percentage of one per cent make it to the top.
There is a reason for that.
They are either the thinkers in the ring who can adapt on their own or the hard core soldiers who are guided along by strict corners who shape the fight around that fighters natural abilities and the others weaknesses.
Anyway the original post stated that if you are being 'outdistanced and controlled' by a strong jab that hangs in your face and follows you around, you COULD attack that jab underneath so it does damage and makes the opposition think twice about holding it in your face.
IF you really think that out,you have adjusted your distance slightly so you can attack an extended arm without being hit yourself. so you have killed two birds with one stone there. You have redistanced the fight so he cant reach and have made him react and rethink.
That sort of thing can change a fight back onto your terms.(if you use the time and follow up correctly).
Thinkers would take it one stage further and would know that they could use it as a controlling stage to be able to close back into their own distance and use the reaction of the opposition completly against them .
Its just one answer for a situation .
