Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
WTF has this guy done to jump ahead of the top WW's? The plan is for the Cintron/Tony winner to fight Cotto unless they get "injured" in which cae Mayorga steps in. What a crock of crap."Injured" also means 2 other things:
Looks too dangerous
Doesn't look good.
I have a feeling if Margarito wins,he's going to get shafted.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Agree with ya bud, be the dangerous case of some one having some pull on the system somewhere ..... corrupt maybe ... loose absolutely
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Why the HECK would you not want to see Cotto and Mayorga get it on?
That's a crazy fight, Mayorga is on a high after beating Vargas, he holds two wins over the current number junior middleweight in the world and his fight with De La Hoya took over 900,000 buys.
Commercially his devlish wild man persona draws crowds and PPV's and he has a fight style that guarantees excitement in every fight.
I'd FUCKING LOVE this fight to happen!
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Why would I not want to see this fight? Gee...let me think about that...
*when was Mayorga last fighting effectively at 147?
*Since when does a win over a shot to shit fighter like Vargas at a weight class 24 pounds higher qualify you for a fight v a top name at 147?
*Why would Mayorga v Cotto be more exciting than Margarito/Cintron/Williams/Clottey v Cotto? Those fights are also more meaningful too.
I'm sick of these gimmicky fights. Mayorga couldn't make 147 and fight effectively.

Perhaps Mayorga doen't deserve a shot at Cotto. However, this fight is being considered for a variety of reasons. First, Mayorga, with his pre-fight antics, will definitely make this fight a highly anticipated one. It will be interesting to note how the flamboyant and LOUD Mayorga will affect the calm and stoic Cotto. Will Cotto lose his cool during one of those press conferences that will surely be scheduled? In the ring, Mayorga was pretty good/strong at 147. Can he make the weight? I am sure he can for millions of dollars. Also, when has a Mayorga fight not been interesting or exciting ? Cory Spikns? That's the only one I can think of. The constant pressure Mayorga (and dare I say equal or more power than Miguel) brings to a fight will certainly test Cotto and lead to an exciting fight. I would definitely like to see this fight and if Miguel is offered a lot of money, he would, without a doubt, take it.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
1. it would be a v.exciting fight
2. mayorga is well known so it would boost his popularity therefor making a fight with floyd more likely
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Well, we have to think also that Mayorga is a good Ticket Saler and a good agitator fighter , maybe is possible to make money and it wiil be a good match up , but i dont think that he deserve a shot with Cotto. After all it going be difficult for him to make the weight, if that fight happen; i bet to Cotto by KO in middle of the fight , with smoking and drinking i dont think so, Cotto is more stronghest . Is true why the Heck they want step in Mayorga first than Margarito?.........;)
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
i think the reasons are that........... mayorgas a name in decline who will fry himself trying to make weight, el matador is still a crowd draw due to his madness, many people may still give him a chance because his very heavy handed at welter but cottos to fresh at this moment
it would be a good fight and continue to up cottos profile, coto seems to fight name fighters.........good on the guy he's a true champion, if many others where like him we'd enjoy more top fights
go cotto
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Because beating Margarito won't mean anything to the average person. Margarito is not a big enough name to really improve Cotto's noteriety. Neither is Cintron because while this fight is huge in PR Cotto is already known by everyone in PR. Mayorga is well known, he plays the villain very well because against MOsley it was hard to really choose a guy to cheer for, but with this fight a lot of people will be cheering for Cotto.
However, Can Mayorga make 147? I highly doubt it, but we will see.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
I would have to see a warm up at 147 before I would be too excited. Mainly because after this balloning up to 160 something, then back down to 147, he's asking for an ass beating. He should be real weight drained and the only possible way he could pull it off would be a weigh in a day or day and a half before the fight. A same day weigh in would probably have him lethargic and weak come fight time. If Mayorga can make 147 like he claims I definately would love to see this one.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
I don't know, a lot of people won't agree but I don't know if it's that dangerous a fight for Cotto. I see Cotto breaking Mayorga down pretty methodically. Doesn't mean I hate Mayorga Hulk.
And its a name.
And the press conferences would be funny. Mayorga calling him a faggot and talking about fucking Cotto's mother, sister and household pet while Cotto silently stares back at him with his perfectly manicured eyebrows.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Why is mayorga ever considered against top fighters? Coz hes technically flawed and power punchers such as tito, delahoya and cotto can tee off on him and make it look like a career defining performance.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
It would still be an entertaining fight. A good rubber-match fight and a sure win for cotto.
It shouldn't be on PPV though.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
I'd like to see this fight.
Re: Why the HECK is Mayorga being considered an opponent for Cotto?
Mayorga is still dangerous with those crazy punches. If he can surprise and hurt Cotto, this may be a hard time for the Boricua. However, Cotto should dominate this fight after a couple of very exciting rounds. I see Cotto putting pressure and changing to counter attack constantly during the fight. I believe this may be a good mental training for Cotto to prepare for bigger things such as Floyd.
I am sure that if there is a good pay, Mayorga will have a lipo if needed to make the weight ;D
