Floyd Mayweather is definitely avoiding Cotto.

In response to the Hatton thread I'm posting this.

Floyd "Fights no welter" Mayweather is without a doubt ducking Cotto. His last fight he chooses to fight a NATURAL 140 POUNDER in Ricky Hatton who previousley nearly got KNFO by Luis Collazo (I ain't bias on this) and looked awful in doing so. He now chooses to fight a part time 35 yr old fader in ODLH for what reason?? $$$ I'm sure Mayweather-Cotto would generate a lot of money, both undefeated NATURAL WELTERWEIGHTS. Cotto has fought better light-welters AND better welters than Floyd and yet all Floyd says is "Miguel Cotto is a great champion but I don't want the sport of boxing to retire me" BULLSHIT FLOYD JUST BULLSHIT!!!

Cotto would be the biggest test for Floyd and let's compare there wins:

Cotto has fought better at Welter and L/Welter but remember Hatton was the one calling out Floyd not the other way round.

I do though think that if Floyd fought Hatton at 140 the win would have meant a hell of a lot more.

I agree mate. Hatton was not a natural 147 it was clear.

YOu guys are full of shit, the reason why Hatton possed any trouble for FLoyd at all was his speed, not being the bigger man, Hatton's only chance was to be fast enough to catch Mayweather, but the problem was, Mayweather was better on the inside than anyone expected, and he moves so quickly that in order for Hatton to keep up with him he had to abandon his head movement. People have been saying shit for years like Mayweather was ducking Baldomir when he fought Zab, but in reality he made the fight bigger by holding off. A lot of people, blind people, felt Oscar-Floyd was close, and that fight has more money attached to it than any other fight out there, it will do nothing to diminish Mayweather-Cotto in the future and it will happen. Also about the competition Mayweather fought Sosa at lightweight so they both faced him, he fought Corley, he has had the better competition overall, but Cotto has had good competition over his whole career no doubt, however, he has struggled way more than Mayweather throughout his career. Corley almost dropped him, Torres almost KO'ed him, Even Zab Judah made him go rubber legged in the 10th, and he stunned Cotto early. I love Cotto, but no way is Mayweather ducking him, if Arum really wanted the fight to happen he would be flashing the money. Wait for after September 21 or whenever PBF-ODLH 2 is done then you will see Cotto-Mayweather.

Why? Mayweather had way more advantages at 140 than at 147 over Hatton, Hatton's footspeed didn't look slower than he did at 140 while Mayweather who was a natural 130 pounder is a lot smaller in frame than Hatton naturally and bulking up has slowed him down considerably especially from 140 to 147 it was the most obvious.

That's your opinion and I respect it mate however Floyd really is ducking him and who at welterweight has PBF fought ??, he chooses the easy opponents and don't say Baldomir was a test, Cotto KO'd Judah unlike Mayweather won by UD and Mayweather has fought shot fighters in Gatti and Mitchell so no wonder he handled the job easier and got beat in the first Castillo fight. Cotto has not fought someone shot and at 140 pounds Cotto was only 70% of himself now and still beat the current IBF and WBO 140 pounders today.

When Floyd enterd 140 he said Cotto was too green, at 147 Floyd said He wasn't popular enough and now that it's perfect he wants to take a break. So Cotto couln't lan a good fight what he does goes to take a fight with Gomez until Margo and Cintron go at it to then set up a fight and unify.

Who has Mayweather fought at welterweight? Um he fought a much faster looking, a sharper Zab Judah then the one that fought Cotto. Cotto punches harder than Mayweather of course he has been able to take out guys that Mayweather hasn't (Sosa, Corley) that doesn't mean a thing. Moving up to 154 to face Oscar Dela Hoya is a way bigger threat to Mayweather than facing Cotto, and you want to know why? Oscar is faster than Cotto, he has a many of the same skill sets as Cotto, he is a little better at boxing on the outside, and he has a way better chin than Cotto. I think Cotto has certain skills that Oscar doesn't, but to fight Oscar is to be in the spot light and Mayweather had never been in the spotlight like that before. IMO guys like Zab Judah present more of a problem for Mayweather for then Cotto in many respects, first of all Zab is the closest guy to measuring up with mayweather in the speed department, Secondly MAyweather comes forward against Southpaws which he definitely isn't as good at doing as countering. Mayweather also fought Baldomir, an albeit slow but industructible welterweight, now I think a few guys can beat Baldomir, but not like Mayweather did, Baldomir landed 12% of his punches in that fight where as he was landing WAY more regularly on Judah. Mayweather also fought Ricky Hatton one of the guys people felt was the most dangerous of anyone he could face because of Ricky's footspeed, pressure, and inside fighting ability, yet Mayweather beat him in every aspect of the fight.

I am sick people who think that Mayweahter isn't taking challenges, you would have to have your head up your ass to not think he is facing quality opposition. Cotto-Mayweather will come, but not this year, next year Mayweather will face Cotto when Cotto is more well known after fighting Mayorga and Mayweather will beat Cotto because he is too fast, and too good.

Show me where Arum has offered 15+ million dollars for Mayweather to face Cotto... He threw money at MAyweather to fight Margarito, but MArgarito is a joke, I am not digging at Paul Williams because I like him, but he was able to beat Margarito like he did then Margarito wouldn't land a punch on Mayweather... I've seen Arum throw money at Mayweather to figh tMargarito becuase there is nothing to lose, MArgarito isn't/wasn't undefeated he was a big guy, it was back when people thought pressure was the key to stopping Mayweather even though they must have forgotten about Mayweather-Corrales. Both Arum and Mayweather want Cotto to be a bigger name before the fight happens.

Fighters are always going to fight the guy who makes them the most money. It's not just Floyd Mayweather. Why do you think Pacquiao chose to fight Marquez instead of going to lightweight? Because Marquez caved and demanded less money, making it the most profitable fight for Manny.

It's simple... as much as people love Cotto, Floyd isn't going to seriously consider him as an opponent until Cotto is the guy who brings the biggest potential paycheck. Fighting Oscar again makes Floyd a lot more money than fighting Cotto, which is why he's fighting Oscar this fall and not Cotto.

When Floyd beats Oscar again and removes him from the equation, then Cotto becomes the biggest potential money maker for Floyd. If Floyd refuses to fight Cotto at that point and takes a smaller check against someone else instead, then criticize him all you want.

If you don't like the fact that guys make decisions based on what will bring them the most money, then you might as well quit watching professional sports, because that's how it's always been and how it's always going to be.

Floyd wants the big-money fights and will fight Cotto when that fight will earn him the most money. He'll win too. Not as easily as he did against Hatton but assuming similar refereeing he'll just stick and move and box Cotto's head off.
