If youwere to break up boxing into two slices...

I've read all the p4p charts I can, and I've come to the conclusion that there should be a divider from old school boxers, and modern boxers when it comes to p4p charts.. I look back at the old fighers it was a different sport. There was virtually no defense, a lot of guys had more mundane skills, but thats because they were treking unknown waters whereas every fighter of the past 30-40 years has seen it all before. For this reason I think either the end of Ali's era or when conqu box came in being should be one block with which fighters before this point and fighters after this point should be compared against.

As far as the divider goes?

I think once they got rid of the 15 round championship fights and made them 12, that is where the divider should be.
So, some where bettween 83 and 88 should mark a new begining.

There should actualy be 3 slices

Anything before the 1920's one slice
From the 1920's to the 1980's ish another slice
Mid 80's to now another slice.

I don't think there needs to be any divider. Part of what makes boxing so great is having arguments about comparing fighters from different eras. Yes, there'll never be a clear answer, because things have changed over time, but that's what makes those discussions fun to have.

Admit it Taeth, you just want to divide eras so you can end up with a list where Mayweather is ranked #1 ;).

Naa,what makes this sport so great is That Is one big continuum.This is a seeing is believing world we live in but you can not loss sight of how yestarday helped make today what it is. People already divide the eras but whos to say that todays era will be considered old school decades from now?And it will.Keep everything as a whole without the sub catagories.Respect.
