Sprained Wrist...
Did something a week ago that I have not done in a very long time... I misjudged a left hook and sprained my wrist.
I had a buisness trip last week that I had to go on and basically just worked out in the gym at the hotel... so there was no bag work...
The wrist has been giving me a fit... almost feels like tendenitis...
Last night in the boxing gym... yup did the same thing... it still has not healed...
Anyone got any suggestions on how to tape this sucker up to allow me to continue to train... or do I just use my right hand for the time being...

Re: Sprained Wrist...
God, I literally cringed when I read "sprained wrist"...
You have to give it time to heal.. Like reallly give it time.. I've had to ease off for 8 months now and I feel only now it's ready for action..
When it began to give me trouble I would rest it for a week or 2 and things like that.. Maybe i'd lean on it wrong sometime and it would be sore so i'd give it another rest for a few days until it got better.. Eventually I realised that, on and off, it had been playing up pretty regularly for about 6 months... It's hard to notice as it gets better and actually feels okay, but then suddenly it'll get sore again.. After that I decided to give it the long rest that it obviously needed to fully repair and get strong again..
My best tip is to wear a hand wrap any time that it's actually sore in any way... I work in an office and can still wear a wrap when I type and do all my other stuff.. Then rest it a lot!! When you feel it's getting better, do some slight wrist exercises over the course of a week or 2... If that give you ANY pain or trouble at all, then you'll know to stay right away from bag work or throwing those miss timed left hooks.. ;D
Patiency is the key, even when you think it's better... My 8 months off may be a bit odd, but if you keep damaging it randomly, it will eventually get to the point where just pushing on a heavy door will sprain it, and you'll need to rest it for an extended period like me..
That's just my experience though, others may have other advice..
Good luck man!! It's very disheartening having a bad wrist when you want to box or train..

Re: Sprained Wrist...
Rest that hand, Shadowboxing is the most you can afford to work it really, wqorking through it will only weaken that tissue for future use.
Use this opportunity to concentrate on your cardio vascular fitness by running or by swimming. When you have to rest one body part, use it as an opportunity to work something else.

Re: Sprained Wrist...
Bro,they arent kidding
Years of trying to just force my way through sprains are why I walk kinda funny
If its sprained, its sprained, and nothing but time or a Doctor is going to fix that(actually if its just a sprain, your right back to time)

Re: Sprained Wrist...
Best advice I can give you is not to work through it and to make sure you wrap your hands properly.
I did my right in last year and kept working with it... give me all sorts of bother till I learned how to look after it... keep it active but don't put it in positions which hurt it... you want to keep a good blood flow to it. mine all of a sudden got better during the space of a fortnight.
I injured my left skiiing and it took 1/4 of the time to heal because I knew how to look after it properly. the right took 7 months to get back to the point that I could punch 100% on it - the left took 2 months.
The worst thing you can do on it is nothing. I'd reccomend training on a double end bag and doing some weight exercises after a while to try and strengthen the tendons (wearing a wrist brace) use deep heat/linament and make sure you get plenty of your Omega acids in :)
Just be careful because I basically turned the sprain on my right into mild tendonitis.

Re: Sprained Wrist...
Thanks a lot... pretty much what I was afraid you all were going to say and I guess I already knew it.... was just hoping someone knew of a way to tape it up tight enough that I could still work it... to cheat time so to speak...
To be honest though... the only thing that I can't do with it now is left hooks... my jab doesn't hurt me at all... but it's too week to really work the left hooks so i will lay off of them for awhile... same with pushups... anything that flexes my wrist back... hurts... so time and rest it is...
Thanks for all the advice...

Re: Sprained Wrist...
Do your push ups on your knuckles with the top of your fists facing up. Same for pull ups if they give you jip. Do them as if you where doing a hammer curl (if you do curls then do hammer curl instead ;))
