Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
Since Gamboa has come to light as a future prospect how good is he compared to his former follow teammate on the Cuban team? Obviously Rigondeaux was the better amateur, he is almost as widely considered the best amateur as Floyd is the best pro. However his style is more counter punching oriented than Gamboa is an offensive wirlwind, while still hard to hit. They both have unbelievable speed(probably the fastest amateurs since Floyd in 1996), they both have great skills(both would be in the top 5 amateurs in the world before Gamboa went pro), however their styles are quite different, at least in the confines of the traditional cuban style.
What I am asking is
1) Who do you think would do better in the pros?
2) Who would you prefer to watch in the pros?
3) IF they fought eachother(I am not sure if they have) who would do beat who in either amateur or pro scenario

I really think though that his style works much better in the amateurs than Gamboa's wirlwind combination style, but you see the same speed, same physical abilities, except more precision, and of course he's southpaw.

Re: Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
Thanks for the vids Taeth,I've never heard of the other guy. Where is he now?
Re: Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
Didn't Rigondeaux try to defect but got caught in like Brazil or something?
Maybe thinking of somebody else
Re: Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
Both looked good in thier last fights and so far in thier careers but both are so new still. Right now i guess i'd have to say gamboa but that doesn't mean much at this point. Gamboa has really never used or needed any kind of real defense yet, so the verdict is still out on him imo.
Re: Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
Solis is a joke compared to these two or his two predecessors in Felix Savon and Teofilo Stevenson.
Rigondeaux is considered perhaps the best amateur to ever fight he has like 3 loses in 250 fights and Guillermo Rigondeaux Ortiz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia will show you all his accomplishments.
Gamboa isn't the same as good of an amateur, but its like Mayweather and Jones but with the same athletic ability. he is throws better combinations and he is better than Rigondeaux comming forward because he doesn't mind missing with punches and he is creative, where as Rigondeaux is very conservative with his punches like Mayweather and he waits to land the cross.
Re: Who's better Rigondeaux or Gamboa?
About Rigondeaux, he defected during the pan-am games, but the Cuban government put a lot of pressure on his family, so him and another very talented guy were both forced to give up their dreams and they were found in Brazil I believe as somebody mentioned. HE was kicked off the cuban national boxing team, and their team really suffered at hit because now 5 of their olympic champions(their best champions) aren't on their national team.
