That knockdown was legit and they are going to protest that also? The only alternative the ref had to that would have been to stop it.
theres nothing to protest, accept it gary or try for a forth fight. this could be like sugar ray and jake lamotta 5 fights for the heck of it.
The ref did a good job. Not great, but good enough. As Al Bernstein puts it, it's really hard to avoid controversy on a great fight like that.
Without trying to sound arsy, you've sorta ruined some of the excitement for a lot of european fans who didn't get to see the fight live by pretty much declaring who won in the thread title.Quote:

The ref did a good job. The point deduction for the low blow was wrong b/c it wasn't low and that's what cost Marquez the fight. However the ref didn't stop the fight in the last round when many others would have. In their second fight Marquez claimed that the ref stopped it too early, so it's a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't situation in someways. The protest will go no-where. Both guys agreed to another fight straight after anyway didn't they?

What will filing a protest do? This is more a pride thing because Marquez knows if he hadn't gone down he'd have a draw, and on top of that if he hadn't had a point deducted he'd have won. The guy is frustrated at being the guy that will be remembered for coming second in one of the best trilogies ever. If this lures Vazquez into a 4th fight, then I'm ok with that as I could watch these guys fight all day.
