Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
This fight has been overshadowed somewhat from the result of Haye-Macca and Diaz-Campbell etc but it was awesome IMO and you could see how much both guys wanted it especially Kevin. I gave him the first 3 rounds and then Johansoon took over and Kevin nearly got knocked down in the 6th. He took some big blows and in one round he slipped which could have been ruled a knock down as a punch landed. He later regrouped and stopped Carl but Kevin without doubt ain't ready for world title status and he still has a lot to learn.
Your thoughts please??
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
Fight of the year so far for me. Easily.
I desperately wanted Carl to win aswel. Mitchell is one tough SOB as Jim Ross would say!

Great fight.. always was going to be.
It went exactly as I expected (apart from the winner )
I backed Carl and started counting my money in the 6th round, thought it was only a matter of time.. fuck knows where Mitchell got that second wind from...
He showed a granite chin and serious arsehole.

I take it you have not seen Vazquez v Marquez3 then?
I'll track this fight down but I've not seen much mentioned of it being a FOTY contender,I just heard it was exciting.
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
Yes quality fight. Mictehll throws too many punches and just predictable and Carl started to time his right hands mid way. Mitchell needs to show more guile as he get to the better fighters. Amir was watching and they may fight in the future.
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
It was good to watch but Mitchell doesn't look like he'll ever be a serious world title contender. Kind of like Alex Arthur, good enough to beat domestic opposition but no chance at world level.

Man i'm gutted i didn't see much of this fight...I was plotting my way to some better seats when the fight was on lol ;D
We were in the top tier but I had my eye on these seats 15 rows back from the ring the whole night as they just didn't seem to be occupied..Made it there so I called my friends to come down as well and Mitchell got the KO while they were on their way..gutted..I still saw it though
Those last few rounds were really exciting from what I remember.

Great fight.
In the early going I felt Johannsen was far too rigid and straight forward for Mitchell, but was surprised to see Mitchell "tire so badly" after the third. Come the sixth round it looked as if it was over, with Mitchell looking spent, but he gritted it out, returned to his plan and produced an impressive KO.
I was glad to seee Mitchell win as I feel he has a style which can improve and allow him to progress to world level, whereas Johannsen is limited to forever being a domestic fighter. imo
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
Mitchell did well to recover and show great heart to get throw the 6th,but i think they will have to slow down with him he aint ready for the world scene yet.
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
No he's not ready yet, but thats not to say that they can't find some decent opposition for him from outside the country. An expedition in America could do him the whole world of good.

I heard Commenwealth light-middle champion Bradley "Sweet Sugar" Pryce will be appearing on the Calzaghe/Hopkins undercard. That will be good exposure for him and Mitchell should do the same.

Dead right, Pryce was a guy who I've seen box Live quite a few times, the last time being.....on the undercard of Manfredo Calzaghe I think...
He's a pretty good fighter, But he's a little short.
Re: Kevin Mitchell v Carl Johansson, WHAT A FIGHT!!
Both Carl & Kevin have been in some very good fights as of late...
I can def. see Carl bouncing back from this loss.
I see good things for Kevin if he can continue to improve.

yes it was a cracker of a fight, i was really impressed with Mitchell and he really did deliever the goods on the night. He showed great heart to recover from those big shots and i really cant wait to see him in the future.
He defiantly showed that he has world class potential all over him and hes still young too. I look forward to his next fight and really hope he can perform the goods again!
