Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
What an amazing round and finish to a fight. Such a shame it ended so tragically.
I hadn't watched this back since watching it live with my Dad when I was just a young boy.
Listen to the commentators talking about how exhausted Eubank is and that he needs a knockout but there is no way he has the strength to do it. Then look at the way they trade back and forth towards the end of the round. Watson gets the better of him and gets the knockdown (I didn't understand why the ref didn't give Eubank the mandatory 8??). Eubank immediately gets up and lashes out with a devastating right uppercut and knocks Watson down with a left hook to finish the round. Crazy!

Oops, just realised this was spoken about half way through last year. I was just surprised it doesn't get mentioned as much. First time i'd seen it since I was young as well. Amazing.
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
It was an amazing fight. Eubank later said that he decided by about round 5 that he could not win the fight because Watson was too strong. He said this was the worst thing he could have done because his adrenaline turned off and he felt every punch twice as much. By round 11 he was just a big ball of pain. He decribed the knockdown saying that when his knee touched the canvas it was like all the hurt and pain left his body and suddenly he was able to throw THAT uppercut.
Say what you like about Eubank but the guy proved in this fight that he had a true warrioirs spirit. This was a great fight that is not celebrated as it should be due to the tragic ending. But what a great great round of boxing !!!!
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
For a guy who claimed he didnt like boxing, Eubank sure had a lot of heart.
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
There 1st fight wasn't that good because both men wern't in good shape notably Eubank who was badly weighted drained. I personally thought Watson won there 1st meeting and got robbed. Both men were much better in the rematch at Super Middleweight. Watson was like a machine that night he was beating Eubank from pillar to post, i always mention this round as one of the greatest of all time, in fact the fight itself is one of the greatest of all time. Out of all the British Middleweight/Super Middleweight fights like Benn vs Eubank 1 etc, i think it was the best of the lot. This also ruined Eubank because he lost his killer instinct after this fight. I remember after the fight that Eubank hinted that Watson may of took illegal substance or something like that, because Watson was so strong that night.

Yeah I remember that. Eubank said that he wanted Watson tested - he meant it as a statement of how strong and good Watson had been and never meant it to suggest Watson was taking anything. It was the interviewer Gary Newbon who mentioned drugs. I have mever liked Gary Newbon he always seemed to treat fighters with a little bit of contempt to me.
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
I believe Watson tried to sue him for that statement. Eubanks called it misguided and I believe Watson tried to set him up to say something over the phone years later.
It was a quality fight and Watson was inspired, never seen him perform like that in his whole career. He was world class and would have given anyone trouble. Eubanks showed heart and punch power, which is why Roy Jones showed him respect.

Watson also had an excellent performance against Benn, and just to let you know Eubank said in his own words that he would never have beaten a prime RJJ ;)

The loss to Watson was also the best thing that could have happened to Benn. He said that the hype had gotten out of control and that everything was fake... even the pony tail he sported for the fight.
Eubank said that he would have fought Roy Jones if the fight had been made but that he was not about to go looking for it. Personally I think Eubank would have lost agianst RJJ but it would have been a great fight.

I disagree i don't think Eubank vs Jones would of been great fight, because they both have unorthodox styles i can't see the action being free flowing, i can see it being a cautious/messy boring fight with Jones winning a UD.

Maybe but if they had fought before the Watson fight when Eubank still 'went' for it I see ego playing a part and I think they would have got involved more. I think Jones would hit Eubank a lot more than he was used too and this would make Eubnak come forward more. I agree the action would be sporadic and messy at times but I thing there would have been drama but would still see Jones winning by decsion.
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
Agreed that Eubanks, the one that went 9 brutal rounds with Benn and the 11 against Watson was something very special. That was the Eubanks, Roy Jones respected because he had a chin of iron and a will of a lion and would not be beaten. Although Roy would have won, Eubanks would certainly go for the victory.
Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
Everyone brings up what RJJ vs Eubank or Benn would have been..
But i've seen on youtube a prime James Toney going on british tv calling all british fighters bums and calling out both Eubank and Benn saying he could beat them on the same night.
THOSE bouts I would have love to seen, Benn vs Toney and Eubank vs. Toney

Re: Eubank vs Watson 2 - Round 11 has to be one of the best rounds ever.
Most of us believe that Roy Jones would have beaten Eubanks and Benn, but I believe both could have beaten James Toney, specially if it was the one that showed up and lost against Roy Jones.
