Anyone studdied Buddhism?
I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Buddhism... I haven't studdied it or looked deeply into it at all, but the more I hear about it, the more sensible it sounds.
I have not been raised to be religious. I have certainly not been raised against religion, it just wasn't an issue in our house. We didn't have a bible or go to church. But as i'm moving on in my years, I feel there has to be something a little more spiritiual to life, or I at least want to seek something a little more spiritual out of life,,,, and I enjoy reading and learning about Humanities history of belief and faith, and connection with spiritual thought's and beings. Whatever form they are.
And Buddhism so far sounds like a reasonable avenue towards finding a peace with yourself.. I still feel I am an intellectual novice to such things, so wondering if anyone has any thoughts?
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
Never studied Buddhism. I am reading through Style's recommended book on Huna 'Mastering Your Hidden Self'
It has some good points but much of it seems like hokum.
I have a monotheistic Christian faith but I want to have a more 'cool' spiritual identity hence trying to make myself believe in Huna
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
buddhism is the shit.. i've read a number of books on it..
I wouldn't say i'm a "buddhist" but i've definitely used certain things in my everyday life..
it's less of a religion and more of just a way of life, which attracted me to it..
i'd suggest reading up on it..
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
Yeah I downloaded the Mastering your Hidden Self book, but so far it's a little wishy washy.. I listened to a recording yesterday by someone who went into Tibet for a month and trecked into the Monestaries and it just sounded amazing...
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
Taking the view of Joseph Campbell, lots of religions or trains of thought seem very reasonable. Just remember it's not about the FACTS it's about the TRUTH and the truth is shrowded within metaphors which in can hold different meanings in different situations.
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
I've read the Tao Of Pooh and enjoyed every page of it.
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
I liked "Winnie The Pooh and the Blustery Day" better but of course that was a movie ;)
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
YEARS ago i got real high in las vegas, walked into a store, bought a tiny buddah statue, went back to the hotel room and sacrificed a cup of yoohoo to it and decided i was a buddist for like 15 minutes
Re: Anyone studdied Buddhism?
My sisters a Buddist, she walks the talk and leaves little prints.
IVe read Tao te ching by Loa Tzu which is Taoist, pronouned dowist in Chinese.
Very wise stuff Toaism ,Buddists that went more into the base nature of the way ,from within nature.
Translation by Jane English and Guy Feng is the best one ;
if you get a chance to pick it up in a store and have a read for 1/2 hour you'll just about read the lot.
Taoist wisdom..
Cut windows and doors from a wall and its the holes that makes it useful.
Shape a vessel from clay and the space within is of use.
Therefore profit comes what is there and usefulness comes from what is not there.
There lies a deep spiriitual meaning in that as well as a fighting strategy.
