A Way to Save the Alphabet Gangs
I think it is clear that the alphabet gangs are rapidly loosing credibility, and will eventually be put out of business, as fighters, promoters and TV networks refuse to pay their outrages sanctioning fees.
However, IMO, all they have to do to remain relevant is create unified mandatories.
When two alphabet trinkets get unified the mandatories for each should have to fight for the right to challenge for the unified titles.
For example: Wlad is the WBO/IBF champ. His mandatories, Povetkin and Thompson should have to fight each other, with the winner getting the shot at the unified titles.
This way, the belts will always stay unified, and the alphabet gangs can begin rebuilding their credibility.
Re: A Way to Save the Alphabet Gangs
That's a good solution for working within the system but if it was up to me, I'd say just get rid of the sanctioning bodies altogether as they do absolutely nothing. I mean really, they do nothing.
However, they have the money so they'll stick around for a while but I just wish some sort of rebellion was staged and fighters just stopped paying sanctioning fees altogether.
There needs to be a Union or some sort of global commission to oversee this. Until then, if we have to live with the bodies, then that is definitely a step in the right direction.
