Great news for net pirates like myself
BBC NEWS | Technology | Europe rejects anti-piracy plans
European MEP's have rejected government plans to ban persistant file shares from internet access!
This law was going to really be a headache for any Europeans who download a lot of boxing, movies, games and music via bittorrent and P2P.
They wanted to force ISP's to monitor usage and band users who who were filsharing
Thankfully they narrowly lost out in the vote so we can carry on with our digital thefts in relative comfort for now
Re: Great news for net pirates like myself
Sounds like the French will carry ahead with this Orwellian spying campaign against their own people but hopefully this vote will helpt deter the British government from following France's lead.
I think the idea of ISP's being forced to monitor all traffic is disgusting, akin to the Royal Mail being told they must open and read every parcel and letter.
Not only does it add extra work for these companies whose services are already shit, and that will consequently force up prices for consumers but it is an outrageous invasion of privacy.
I hope there will continue to be objections to this crazy new law.
Re: Great news for net pirates like myself
As soon as they develop the technology to monitor what people are downloading they're going to pass laws to stop file sharing, p2p etc. Enjoy the free stuff on the net while it lasts.

That is GREAT news.. My whole life is downloading entertainment from the internet.. I'm not entirely against buying the things I enjoy watching,,, but it saves time just hitting download and forgetting about it. We are behind the rest of the world in regards to air dates.. I'm not always home when my tv shows are on. It just makes life easier...
Especially for actual content that is either very hard to find in stores, impossible, or very expensive.
I think the government should figure out a way they can make revenue from it like they do with cigarettes, petrol, alcohol, and gambling,,, then their is absolutley NO risk of them EVER making a law against it!

Yeah if they find a way to tax bandwidth then we'd never have to worry about anti piracy laws again

The combined weight of the intellectual property industries far outweighs that of the communications industry. Matter of time.
