Re: Margarito-Williams II
I think Margarito will win the rematch, but i don't think it will be easy Williams will still trouble Margarito with his workrate and constant move. But i see Margarito starting much faster and being much more competitive in the early rounds. And i think he either wins a UD or he stops Williams late on, if he hits William's skinny body with the body punches he hit Cintron with. I can actually see Magarito stopping Williams in the middle rounds.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
I think Margarito's lack of straight, crisp, quick punching hurts him in a lot of fights. If he tightened everything up he could EASILY beat Paul Williams because Williams is easy to hit.
I just think it's more risk than reward at this point in time seeing how Williams just got dominated by Quintana. A fight vs Quintana would be a tough test for Margarito if he's not going to take the Cotto fight
Re: Margarito-Williams II
Alot of politics has to play out before the could happen but I would like to see it.I think Margaritos led-footed start and Williams maximizing his reach and movement caused Tony much grief. That was almost two fights, with Tony looking lost over the 1st portion and then his pressure and power having Williams stand more still later on.I really can not see Williams staying around at Welter win or loss Vs.Quintana.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
I think Margarito is so slow in terms of footwork, and even his hands that any of the better athletes wouldn't have much trouble with him. I think that good footwork would be a nightmare for Magarito. He reminds of an unathletic Mayorga, and even Mayorga couldn't deal with quick boxers.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
Sergio Martinez, who is an excellent boxer and one of the best fighters at 154 couldn't handle Tony and he has slick footwork. Santos footwork isn't too bad and Tony should have got the W over him. It's not just footwork alone that beats Margarito,it's something to go with it. Santos and Williams had size and volume.
The 2 biggest things that hurt Tony against PW was not the angles. It was the sheer volume of punches combined with his slow start and the holding on the inside. Marg is a superb inside fighter but PW managed to hold him and make him ineffective there. THAT's what won him the fight. Not just the movement alone.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
I'm picking Cotto over Margo the same way I picked Margo over cintron
But when Margo loses to Cotto(I'm sure of it ) and then he goes rematch Williams he better win because the boxing world will disapear him.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
i think margo would win a rematch against williams. i think he would start off at a faster pace than he previously did and take the fight winning a UD, or stopping williams late
Re: Margarito-Williams II
It is a shame in a way that Cotto is fighting Margarito in his next fight. Both fighters could clean the division and then fight, build up the anticipation for the fight as they are the two most active and dangerous men in the division.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
I don't like Williams but I have to say this is one of those deals where I think he'd always give Margarito problems. Maybe Margo could start faster (lets don't forget Williams output had something to do with that) and grind him down to a late stoppage but I wouldn't be totally confident about that.
Re: Margarito-Williams II
Styles make fights, and for that reason I think Williams would give Margarito a ton of problems just like he did in winning the first fight. Movement is what bothers Williams (as Quintana proved) and Margarito does not move laterally, he stays right in range to get hit all night.

I've seen a lot of people say that last night proved the Williams fight to be a fluke but I just have to disagree. As degraded as people's opinion of Williams has become, I still think he has the tools to beat Margarito yet again, in fact I thought he had more room to improve in their bout.
I just think that Margarito is best with an opponent willing to fight and come to him. Williams was on his horse the entire not, never set his feet and gave Margarito a target to hit until later on in the fight which is when Margarito had his success. Kermit Cintron stood right in front of Margarito all 10 or so rounds they have fought over the course of their two meetings. Williams doesn't do that and it's not like we didn't already know Margarito could walk through punches it's a matter of getting off punches on his own, don't see how last night changes that.
Williams held the entire fight excessively and was never warned and was lucky their was not another round as he was totally gassed at the end. Had Margarito started earlier he would have finished Williams. Plu s,Williams shear size will not be shocking the 2nd time around
Re: Margarito-Williams II
If it ever does come off, I think Margarito comes away with the win. He realizes he started off too slow last time. He won't make that mistake again.

That comparison is totally inaccurate.
Let's see Mayorga:
Smokes
Has been knocked out 3 times
Just throws bombs
Inability to put punches together
Always out of position
Displays no class
Is no more than a club fighter / side show
Whereas Margarito is
A busy fighter
Accurate
Granite chin
Systematically breaks his opponents will
The similarities :
They both get hit
They are both latin boxers
Hardly the basis to compare the two !! You should be ashamed
One JCC had a very succeddful carer fighting this way while also being prone to fleet footed opponents.JCC was not an outstanding athlete.
Why not highlight how Cotto might have a nightmare having to think about being hit before casting of his shots. He has more feather like hitting opponents on his record than I have in my pillow.
