After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
And that is going to be a war. I've seen Rubio give Margarito all he can handle in sparring. He's improved ALOT since getting ko'ed and has power,is tough, rather sloppy but can be dangerous. Pavlik knocks him out but it should be a good fight leading to a AA unification.

Rubio chin is weak. I think Pavlik stops him early
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
I don't like it. Rubio wasn't even a top level 154 pounder. And coming right after Lockett? I don't have any problem with a stay busy fight but two in a row is getting a bit excessive. Calzaghe did it and came back with Kessler and Hopkins so hopefully that's the way Pavlik goes but still.
And I remember watching him in the gym before he fought Ouma. He looks very good in the gym, doesn't look like the same fighter in the actual ring.

I concur. He got freaking rocked by Kofi Jantuah.

Pavlik has power to easily match him. He has fought the better guys and finished them violently. Kofi doesn't have nearly the power Pavlik dose. Rubio Throws more of a looping punch in a higher position . Terrible match up for a hard hitting guy who throw strait punches. Pavlik by 3. Not even a close fight. They don't match up. One has a world class chin one has a chandelier for a jaw. They are both tall. 6'1" and 6'3". They both have great power. But this is a bad match up. Dissect it your self. Compare them and you will agree. Put a guy in with a glass jaw with a world class boxer who is probably the hardest hitter pound for pound and 160 through 168 is a recipe for a quick fight.

holy SHIT!!
what a KO.. i've never seen that one..
agreed.. this would be a quick Pavlik win.. especially if this guy is a natural junior middleweight, i don't care if he's 6'10..
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
Yeah this is a joke they need to get Winky in the ring with Pavlik not Rubio. That is a joke, I would rather him face Duddy then Rubio. I could name 10 people before Rubio, that's a complete farce of a fight.
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
If this is true, Pavlik's choice of opposition is starting to make me long for the days when JT was the champ.
One of Duddy, Rubio, or Lockett would be fine for a stay busy fight, but two in a row appears similar to the Arthur Abraham or pre-Kessler Calzaghe school of title defenses.
Fight Winky Wright for fucksake.
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
Indeed and Pavlik isn't catching nearly as much shit as Taylor used to when he was fighting better opposition. I guess if Pavlik continues to look good then people don't moan no matter who he fights.
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
I've heard rumors of a Lockett-Rubio-Mayorga triple header for Kelly
:o
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
to be fair there's also been some talk about Pavlik-Calzaghe being a real possibility, maybe even replacing the Rubio fight. Lockett is totally set though apparently.

According to sources this is a tune up fight for Abraham in a unification bout. Personally I don't want a unification. I want him and Calzaghe. Calzaghe is having a possible bout with RJJ in late September. This Rubio fight is supposed to take place in Cleveland in the Quickend Loans Arena( Lebron's house often known as the Q by Ohioans) in September. There is allot of possibilities for fights after this so called tune up. I cant believe they have Rubio ranked higher in the WBC & WBO than Wright. Wright is 6 and Rubio is 4.

He is totally set for a beating.
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
To be fair, Lockett is the Mandatory Challenger for his WBO belt. Not sure why Rubio is next, but there really is not a whole lot to pick from.
Many people will say Winky. Winky is not an option. Pavlik is not a PPV draw (yet Anyway) and neither is Winky. Wright however, is spoiled and wants PPV money. Notice how busy Winky is now? He refuses to fight unless it is for big money and has priced himself out of the game. He is also coming off a loss. No fighter deserves a shot at a title coming off a loss IMO. Work for it dammit!
If you look at the WBC rankings below, you will see that there is not a huge list to pick from.
1 .- Giovanni Lorenzo (Dom. R.)
2 .- John Duddy (Ireland)
3 .- Sebastian Sylvester (Germany) EBU
4 .- Marco Antonio Rubio (Mexico) FECOMBOX
5 .- David Lopez (Mexico) LATINO
6 .- Ronald Wright (US)
7 .- Domenico Spada (Italy) INTL
8 .- Sergio Mora (US)
9 .- Fulgencio Zuñiga (Colombia)
10 .- Enrique Ornelas (Mexico) NABF
11 .- Raul Marquez (Mexico)
12 .- Francisco J. Castillejo (Spain)
13 .- Miguel Espino (US) CABOFE
14 .- Sebastian Zbik (Germany)
15 .- Gary Lockett (GB)
I think by the end of the year, If Pavlik does not get another 160lb belt holder to fight, you will see him abandon 160 for 168.
Re: After Lockett,Pavlik most likely to face Rubio....
160 is weak and its not like there's a group of star 154 pounders set to move up at some point either.
The only fight worth making really at 160 is Abraham. If not he might as well move up.
