Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
For the 1st time ever I would might actually back against JC if this fight was made:o
I think Pavlick is young, fresh and has the power to stop Joe. I would call it 50/50.
Joe is in top now and should do what Lennox did and bow out at the top (although I think B-Hop deserves a rematch)
Thoughts?
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
Calzaghe would most likely have a field day with Pavlik.
But he should stick to the old boys club now (deserves it)
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
Joe should retire now while he has no defeat yet. He's growing old and sloppy and fighting a young fighter like Pavlik who has a high probability of wining over him is nonsensical. Joe has nothing to prove now. Though I must admit that fighting Pavlik would be very very exciting.

I think Pavlik could stop Calzaghe, Hopkins hit him over and over again with straight right hands, so did Robin Reid and Richie Woodhall, the difference is Pavlik is a much bigger puncher than all of the boxers i just mentioned, i can't see Calzaghe keep getting hit with Pavlik's right hand. And plus Calzaghe is starting to look a bit worn out IMO, his combinations against Hopkins were nowhere near as fast or good as they used to be, and his jab didn't have no snap on it either.

Agree with this, if Calzaghe fights like at the weekend he gets stopped late on against Pavlik. He COULD beat Pavlik if he stuck to his in and out boxing, but like you said the speed isn't there in his combinations anymore and he wouldn't be able to outland Pavlik in close, he used to get away with this sort of trading a few years back because his punches were faster tyhan his opponents with enough sting on them. Add to this that his left hand hasn't been a legitimate threat for a good few years he's likely too be outfought by the younger man.

And plus if we are talking about 8 years ago, Calzaghe also used to have the power to make his opponent's respect his power. Remember he almost had 100 percent KO/TKO record going into Eubank fight, thats what also worries me about Pavlik is that he won't be able to get any respect from Pavlik because the power isn't there anymore, neither is the ferocity or speed of the combinations.
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
I'm gonna lean towards Pavlik winning now. Joe won Saturday, but he looked old as well. He is at that age where he will find it very tough to go 12 with a young hungry big puncher. Some will say he did well against Kessler, but Kessler is not Pavlik. They are not even close to being the same beasts that so many think. Kessler to me, has always seemed like a guy trained to be a fighter, while Pavlik has always been a fighter. Pavlik wants to rip your head off, Kessler likes to look good, and is vastly overrated by many because of it.
What is weird is that before Saturday, I would have picked Joe beating Pavlik by a wide UD. Now he can still beat him, but I can also very easily see Pavlik wearing him down in there and either out working him, or catching him.
It is not due to Bernard making him look bad either. His reflexes and Speed were just missing that oomph that he used to have. If he is going to fight Pavlik, he should do it really soon as he could muster one more good fight in him and catch Pavlik while he is still a little green.
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
i think calzaghe should pull it off.

MANY HITTERS ?
NAME ANY HITTERS CALZAGHE HAS FACED ?
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
I would pick Pavlik by late stoppage that right hand would catch up with Calzaghe.
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
Difinitely Kelly Pavlik. No questions there.
I would even bet my soul for that fight.

Exactly, his flurries are just cheap imitations of what he used to throw, while he wasn't a devastating puncher, each shot would rock they guy back and forth, and because he was faster they were unable to compete in close. Somone made a great remark in another thread that he looks like a cat pawing a ball of thread when he does it now, Kessler and Hopkins were able to soak it up and occasionally nail him mid flurry.
Re: Pavlick v Calzaghe - who wins?
If he want this fight he needs to really send a message with the Lockett fight. I dont see Calzaghe really pressing his people into making this fight. I dont know any vetrean that would. Its not how you want to go out. Guys like Pavlik are dangerous. Just like Cotto , Pavlik destroys people when he hits them. He has you think the words retirement before you think of rematch. He is what I like to call a humblemaker. He will humble you. He will hurt you with both hands. He needs to really destroy Lockett and hopefully that will spark a flame under Enzo's ass. I would love to see it. If he comes in slow and moving forward like he did with Hopkins would be knocked out. If that was a Pavlik right hand that hit Joe in the first round he would have been seriously hurt. With all that time Pavlik could have finished him off. Not to mention Pavlik's chin is up there with Hopkins. I don't see Joe hurting Pavlik with pitter patter. He wont do it. I see Pavlik by KO between rounds 8-11 .
