Greatest Thing I've Seen From a Ref
This is the Terry Norris-John Mugabi fight. I don't know what this ref's name is but he should be given every big fight. Mugabi get's dropped and barely beats the count and deliberately takes out his mouthpiece and drops it on the canvas, hoping the ref will pause the action and pick it up and send him to a neutral corner to have it washed off and put back in, and instead of falling for this age old con or stopping the fight to take a point away like most would do, this ref just looks at it on the ground and let's Mugabi get his @ss beat without it, classic:

I'm not a big fan of Joe Cortez, but you should've seen him in David Diaz v Ramon Montano bout in Pac-JMM II undercard. He did an amazing trick with the lose tape on the glove. ;D I hope someone would post a youTube video of it here.

Fwockin-A BoomBoom! lol! ;D You remember that too?
Cortez was awesome that night.
Re: Greatest Thing I've Seen From a Ref
Norris was looking some some vindication after Jackson blasted him.Man I miss Wide world big time. After that left hook,Mugabi was drunk until the end.I don't even know if Ekerd saw it come out,He let it sit right there on top of the "B" until finish ;D It would'nt have mattered.....Norris was in a zone.
Re: Greatest Thing I've Seen From a Ref
Terry Norris was a baddass, he had that shaky chin, but he had power and had good skills when he wanted to use them. I just wish he could've had the chance to fight Tito or DLH. I remember at one time he was supposed to fight on or both of them at one point.

He always seemed to take heat for matching with Smaller guys....or "past It" fighters. There was all sorts of talk about Norris in the p4p ranks topping Chavez and a possible Whitaker fight. There was even a tentative Match with Buddy Mcgirt I believe in 92 but The execs and Mcgirts team had some sort of falling out.Ive always liked Norris, but often had problems controlling his emotions

Seriously I couldn't believe that. Never seen that before. He liked that fight to much, didn't want it to end.
Re: Greatest Thing I've Seen From a Ref
What Mickey Vann did was great on the night (especially for our entertainment sake) but with hindsight that was a serious wrong'un. He took a gamble that he shouldn't have.

Yeah I agree. A referee should never throw a towel back that is ignoring a fighter's safety especially considering no one knows their man better then the cornerman.
Re: Greatest Thing I've Seen From a Ref
Earls trainer split with him after that fight because he believed he was finished. Next fight he lasted 90 seconds with Khan. Maybe he was right.

That would be Ref. Eddie Eckert who started getting the big fights in the late 80's after paying his dues for some years. Eckert is more remembered for being the Ref. at a lot of the MAJOR lower weight fights.

Not only did he do that with the tape he also caught the mouth piece as it flew out and then quickly put it back in place.

I see your point Fens, but that's why Smoger is a well respected Ref. who is liked. Cause he knows when to let a fight go and when to stop it.
