“If it had not been for Joymala, both Bodo and the guard would have been badly injured or dead,” he said. Meanwhile, Joymala, which was trying to aggressively chase the tigress, was calmed by the CWRC veterinarian, who was holding on to the profusely bleeding mahout. “His fingers were hanging by few shreds of tissue and I tried to tourniquet the wounds,” he said.

At first I wondered why the elephant didn't do anything, but I guess it was off camera. As Julius stated, the elephant pinned the tiger down and then tried to chase it.
I didn't think a tiger would go after an elephant, but I guess when wildlife gets hungry enough, it'll go after anything.

Yea they are lucky one elephant stepped up to the tiger cause both of the rangers had fallen off as they were on ground level, before the tiger could attack them again one elephant stepped up to chase the tiger away. They are calling that elephant a hero, cause if it hadn't chase the tiger away those two rangers were vulnerable to another attack.
