The rematch between reigning WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev and former champion Nikolai Valuev, slated for May 31 in Germany, has been scratched due to a medical condition sustained by the champion.
Reportedly, Chagaev’s condition is described as “a protracted virus infection or a viral infection of the upper respiratory tract.” The show’s promoter, Universum Box-Promotion is expected to provide further details at a press conference later this week.
Chagaev (24-0-1, 17 KOs) is a 29-year-old southpaw born in Uzbekistan, who fights out of Hamburg, Germany. The WBA champion dethroned Valuev last April via majority decision in Stuttgart, Germany. In his most recent fight, Chagaev outpointed the UK’s Matt Skelton on January 19.
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
didnt the same thing happen to chagaev when he was supposed to fight sultan?
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
Can't remember if it was the same thing but he hasn't been the healthiest of fighters since the 1st Valuev fight. Funny cause I can't remember him having any problems up to that point! I think he could make some noise in the division so I hope he gets his sh*t together

Yeah I think so....I hope he is not going to be one of those guys who constantly delays title fights...If he keeps getting injured he should let the belt go up for grabs and return when healthy....Save us from another one of the WBA's...Champion/Super Champion charades

Yes indeed it did
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
best ive seen valuev in his last fight was against lyakovich.
Guy now genuinely seems to understand to some degree how to work behind the jab and gave a decent opponent no end of problems in the end getting a complete shoutout on the scorecards.
Maybe ruslans camp has seen a new attribute in nikolays armour they are not entirely happy with??

If Valuev developed a good solid Jab that he could pump out 50 times a round he would be damn near impossible for any of the current crop to beat...His sheer size alone would make it too difficult to get in on him....He is not really a hard puncher...at least not for a man that big...
I think if that big goof Tye Fields developed a good solid jab he could actually do something in the division...not beat the elite of the HW scene (all 2 of them) but make for a few interesting matches
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
Chagaev-Valuev II on Hold! Thank God For that! The first was the dullest fight I've ever seen....
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
Actually the Tomasz Adamek last fight was worse! Much worse...
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
Its about time they threw Valuev in with a Klitschko to find out how good his chin is and whether the hairs on his back automatically spring him back up when he gets put down
Re: Chagaev-Valuev II put on hold
I find the thread title ironic, seeing as the operative word will be a summary for the fight itself when it does occur
