Re: Martin Castillo retires
Good to see that he knows when it's time to call it quits...some fighters just keep going out of stubborness and end up getting either hurt or hurting their legacy.
Re: Martin Castillo retires
Really surprised at this one...
But hey! it's better to quit now then years later when it's OBVIOUS you should no longer be fighting.
It takes a great a man to retire from a sport he loves so much, but it takes a even biggger man to STAY retired. Not many have done that but the ones that have walk away with a little more then the rest IMO.
Happy retiring 'Gallito' and enjoy the view of your beautiful home off the hills of Hacienda Heights.
Have a drink on me right next to your pool this summer. :beerchug:
Re: Martin Castillo retires
He had the look when Montiel absolutly demolished him....Although Im still humbled at picking him to outbox Montiel :-X.Whoop's. I hope that seeing as how he saw fit to do so ,that He actually Stays Retired. The 1st instinct can tell you much.
Re: Martin Castillo retires
I always enjoyed watching Castillo fight. I hate to see him go. But if he heart ain't in it no more. Than it is time to go.
Re: Martin Castillo retires

Good information Diane , CC.........;D
Re: Martin Castillo retires
He looked so good the first time out versus Munoz, thought he was on his way to being a star but never looked quite that good again.
Re: Martin Castillo retires
Sad to see him go, always one of my favorites. But if he thinks it time then its time. All the best to him in the future

He looked great in the rematch too, that was an awesome fight!
Re: Martin Castillo retires
For those who don't know this guy he was great for a while in his prime only a few years ago. He completely DOMINATED Munoz the first time out. During that peak I would posit that he was one of the most complete fighters p4p. I remember reading articles about how other boxers would marvel at his training regiman.
I'm glad he knows when to walk away.
Re: Martin Castillo retires
Castillo in his prime was all heart, the only guys to beat him were Machado and Montiel!
Having watched the Montiel fight, it did seem that his heart no longer allowed him to apply himself to fighting and although he appeared in fantastic physical condition, it was evident from the first bell that mentally, he was not prepared to fight.
Although from a boxing fans perspective I'm disappointed at his retirement, from another, more logical view, I respect him for alking away and hope he does not ned the sport again.
