Suggestions on what food to eat
I have started to go back to the gym three days ago and my gym instructor told me to eat low carbs food, no-salt viand, fruits and protein-rich food.
Honestly, after my board examinations (that was 8 years ago), I haven't been conscious with my food intake and I hardly have done any exercise. I bloated from around 110 pounds to 180 lbs. For my height, I'm definitely fat.
Can you guys suggest on what food to eat to lower significantly my weight and to take away some huge fat in my belly. I've read some literatures on dieting and these health gurus have been saying opposing things. I'm really confused. I need some suggestions from you guys who have been successful with their diets/exercise.
Btw, my arms and body are really aching right now from the sit-ups , cardio exercises and the weights.;D
I'm glad though that I started to go back to the gym.
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
I don't really have suggestions as your goal is different then mine, but it might not be a bad idea to post this also in the training section as some of those cookies are pretty smart.
p.s. don't eat too many cookies. :)
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
Depends on what kind of money you have to work with. No it really does, this past week we've had a delicous tofu chili, steamed shrimp with mac and cheese as a side(they balance out),lightly steamed brocoli with garlic and lightly drizzled in butter with stuffed flounder.Jello for dessert
Theres not alot of useless calories, or heavy carbs in any of that, but you cant say its eating bad
The other thing that really helps is to learn to cook, this way you can pick and choose your recipes, most of the stuff you get thats pre-packaged,ie heat and eat, is quite frankly crap. Making your own food allows you to control your intake way better.
A starvation diet, you probably break,so find a way to eat well, but eat smart. Your human, you want to eat naturally, its your nature,so eat,but eat smart, cutting down intake isnt bad,but completely cutting yourself off causes a relapse to your old eating habits.
Yes,Id love to slam in to a Double Whopper with cheese, but if I have good food thats better for me,then I can just ignore that urge. And its better for my kid as well,it expands his pallet so he can enjoy more of a variety of food later in life. He's not thrilled because he has the eating habits of a 7 year old boy, grease salt and sugar, but its better for him in the long run

Great thread. I'm in the same boat. My ideal weight is probably about 165-175, but I'm pushing 200lbs right now. I've been so apathetic about everything for the past year or so, now I'm trying to force myself to get in better shape and improve my help. I even quit smoking weed .
I try to eat a lot of whole-grain pasta, fruits and vegetables, skin-less chicken, potatoes etc. but I really have no idea what I should be eating. I know I consume too much sodium, so I'd really like to cut down on that.

No prob bro.
Heres a recipe I made myself for a side dish, that is supprisingly filling
Take some broccoli, a full head, not a giant one,one half of of quarter of a clove of garlic, shred a little onion in.
Steam it in a steamer,if you dont have one a handled colander should work
Now melt some butter,go easy here,we're talking a pat not the stick
Now when the broccoli starts to turn a dark green pull it,it will be a nice and firm, not the mushy version we all hated as kids, and still have lots of flavor.
Now drizzeling is once you pull it out,its pouring your pre-melted butter carefully over the entire dish.
Flavorful, but not through the roof cals or carbs, and it has vitamins you need
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
More boxer chow
Line the bottom of large skillet with oil, take about 4 potatoes ,skin them and slice them in chip form.
A bit of butter is also allowable here, but very little, spice them with pepper to taste, and a very little bit of salt.
When they start to go tender, take them out of the pan and bake them(it cooks off the fat of the butter, while retaining the flavor),as it cooks pour the shunted oil and butter out. If your feeling decadent, you can put some shredded low fat cheddar cheese over it while it bakes
Very filling,again,low fat,high filling

And for snacking on
Cut up some fresh veggies, some broccoli, some cauliflower, some baby carrots, some pepper
Now take one tabelspoons of of Heinz mustard, and one of Guldens, now mix in 3 teaspoons of honey
You now have the dipping sauce of the gods
What Im trying to point out,is you can eat not a little good, but VERY GOOD without breaking training
I know we're all trained to eat potato chips and pizza, and I know that, but with a little self training in cooking, you can eat gourmet, and be right there in training, and eat well no less.
I eat awsome, but even at my age,and with my injuries,Im not putting on weight
And I like beer on top of it,which is a carb looking for a place to stick
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
Thanks a lot TM, really appreciate it.
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
I'd say take in some power foods. These are the foods that help you blast through the gymwork.
These are a lot more common than you would expect.
Bananas, carrots, avocados and ginger are all great.
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
Two things that are good to have around the house if your in training.
A block of low fat cheese, and pickles
Youd be suprised how far just a little nibble of cheese will take you, and lets face it if your in training, your sweating like a pig, which means your blowing your own salt by the bucket full.If you dont replenish it, you cramp up. Well what makes a pickle?
A cucumber soaked in brine
My wife didnt even used to like pickles,Ive seen her inhale a polish dill since she's been training
But again, no fat,no carbs, and its something your body was dying for anyway.
Now dont get me wrong, your body needs some carbs for energy, but you dont want them being empty carbs, like cookies, and for the love of god avoid cake like the plague it is
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
Good thread - some of you know me will no about my food and weight struggles.
I have been as high as 316 pounds in 2006 and am currently 222 pounds. I am 5 ft 11 but extremely big built, so my ideal weight is somewhere between 200 & 210.
Everday is a huge battle for me, because food is my outlet for every emotion and it is a HUGE addiction.
I think that there really is no cure it's just always gong to be this way, so what you/we need to do is make sure we eat enough, but just keep it balanced. If you eat a sensible balanced diet including all food groups (around 2000 cals per day) and go to the gym 4-5 times a week you WILL lose weight!! Fuckin hard though ;)

2000 is the standard calories for a man wanting to lose weight am i right???
I ask this because i was told the other day that for someone of my height 5`9 i should be looking more around the 1850 mark.
I used to weigh just over 200 pounds but managed to get myself down to about 170 before i began putting it on again and now weigh currently about 180.
Ive a biggish build and do tend to get through quite a bit of weight exercise but am constantly told for a man of my height i should weigh no more than 165.
Have cut out big meals and am now eating 5 small meals a day to go along with a good run when i finish work!!
Re: Suggestions on what food to eat
Thre are all sorts of figures banded about, but it's down to the individual. It is as important to make sure you eat enough as it is to make sure you don't eat too much, try 1850 and see how you go :-\
Good luck

As I pointed out earlier,if you try to starve yourself out, your just going to snap and go back to how you used to eat.H is right,in that youve got to eat,its human nature, and if you dont get a proper vitamin intake,on top of it,you can make yourself sick.
Last nights dinner
Grilled on the grill Southwest Chicken
A stuffing made as follows
Bread
2 cups of boulion with onion and garlic
Brocoli
Baked until firm
Feur had a salad as well with mandarin orange and applesauce as well
The stuffing fills you up,the chicken was grilled so the fat shucks off it,and the salad is roughage and takes care of her sweet tooth
