Ali vs Norton 3 - Controversial...How did you have it?

Ok guys either post your cards if you have one...or if you don't have one just try and remember who you had winning the fight.

For me it all boiled down to the last round and i'm still not sure because it was such a hard round for me to score. I know most people say Norton won for sure but I don't see it that way.

I did have a card for this fight but don't know where it's gone! :mad:

I remember the score though... 6 - 6 and 2 even going into the 15th.

The 15th I saw it like this....

Ali controlling mostly at range with his darting jab. Norton not getting off until about a minute in or a minute and a half in. Then Norton takes over the last minute of the round with pressure and big shots. Instinctively I gave it to Ali...he controlled Norton with his jab and built up too much of a lead at the beginning of the round and although Norton took over the last minute of the round, i'm not sure whether it was enough to overturn Ali's cool performance for the first half.

Funny thing was when it finished, one of the expert judges had it EXACTLY the same as I had it 6-6 and 3..but I really feel like i'm taking the easy way out by calling the 15th a draw. So i'm going with Ali.

For me Ali wins 7-6 and 2 even. I could understand a draw or 1 the other way for Norton as well.

How did you see it?

man that was a great fight, ages since ive seen it so no hope of
a scorecard, but i remember thinking Norton had done enough at the time.

I thought Norton won the 3rd fight by a slight margin. Ali was on the down side by then.

My favorite fight of that trilogy is the 2nd fight. I don't understand why this fight is so underated. Ali still had it, and he showed it vs Norton in that 2nd fight although it was close...again. Great fight! One of my favs of all time.

I think I had Norton just ahead at the end.


I think Norton is 1 of the few fighters that had the style that would given the Ali of the 60s a hard night.:o

I thought Norton won all three fights. The guy was just Ali's kryponite

Whats interesting is that Holmes had similar problems against that kind of style against both Witherspoon and Norton.

And as for the topic i had Norton winning can't remember my exact scorecard but i remember i had Norton winning for sure, i also had Ali losing against Shavers, Young.

Norton said in an interview (at which he was sitting beside Ali)
"TRhe two first fights were close, they could have gone either way, but I knew as soon as the bell rang I won the third fight."

So as I said on the other thread ICB...I had Ali winning...The whole fight was tough but I still don't think it was contraversial....I can name a slew of fights more contraversial....

The first fight I gave to Norton. Ali just looked terrible to me. Missing shot and on the rebound from missing shots Norton would tag him. I thought Ali won the second and not as close as many think as Ali really hurt Norton in that one.

The third is where all the opinions are really. I don't think Norton did enough to take the title. As they always say, you have to take the title, it isn't handed to you. Ali was not in good shape in this one and I think he may have been on medication because he looked bloated but I think he did enough to keep the title.

Norton probably had Ali in punch stats and aggression but not in enough to "take" the title.

It may not have been a win for Ali if he didn't have the title but with it yes. ANd I don't think Norton did himself any favors yelling at Ali with such venom. It was unsportsmanlike and disrepsectfull to Ali and boxing.

Norton, IMHO was not as good as many think. He lost every bout that counted. Foreman and Holmes an Ali protege. And was handed the belt without a fight.

Ali was done and over the hill by the time #3 came around. Ali would beat Norton 10 out of 10 times in his prime and most with unanimous decisions.

I do remember watching this a while ago. I don't remember how I had the scoring but I remember I had Norton well ahead going into the fifteenth round. I'd say at least three rounds. I will probably watch this tonight or over the weekend to score it again.
