Chris Byrd v Shaun George
Chris Byrd makes his return to the ring on Friday at Light Heavyweight. At 39 years old he has dropped 25lbs. A lot of people would think a heavyweight dropping that much weight would be indestructible however this is not always the case, losing that much weight has major effects on how you can take a punch. Not only that he is used to fighting at heavyweight pace, watching him spar he still seems to be fighting at the slower pace. Shaun George is a decent opponent for him and he is tough but limited. How much effect is Byrd going to have on the division, am thinking he should get through this one but I am not sure he will beat any of top guys. I have also admired Byrd's heart and his ability to take on the monsters in the heavyweight division what are you opinions on how he will do ?
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
This fight will tell us everything we need to know about how Byrd handles the new weight. IMO he will do well for a while, but father time is gonna come a knockin soon. He should have made this move years ago, I think he would have been up there at the top of the division in 2006 maybe not beating the best, but at least getting the good fights.
All in all I think that it is too late for Byrd, but he will end up as a gatekeeper at 175.
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
Like Killersheep I'll wait until I see this fight until I make any comment on his future.
39 is old at any weight
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
would like to come up with something original but I can't, its the ultimate wait and see fight, I don't think anybody really knows how the weight will affect Byrd till we see him fight.
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
I do give great credit to Byrd for making this move. I never thought I would ever be interested in a Chris Byrd fight again.
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
AFter this fight if he does well he should fight Woods.
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
Byrd is lookin' good. I wish I could lose 25 pounds just like that too. :) That's crazy.
Re: Chris Byrd v Shaun George
Byrd should have moved down years ago but he probably didn't want to lose the IBF belt he had back then.
