What is everyone's opinion about females participating in mixed martial arts? Although I'm guilty of believing there wouldn't be much to it at first, after seeing a few female fights earlier today, it's just as interesting as the males.

I'm indifferent to it. I'm glad they have the opportunity but I won't make any effort to watch it
lately the female fights on elite xc are some of the better ones, even out of shape Gina Carano brought it to her opponent...lots of hard shots..gotta say is better than watching some of the female boxers..
i hear there are alot of them sparring down in Oklahoma getting someone ready for the Zelenoff fight......
I think each to their own and if woman want to participate then they absolutely should be allowed to, BUT I will never watch it. May be an old fashioned view, but I don't ever wanna see a woman getting hit or hurt.
I watched a programme called catfights on some obscure SKY channel the other night. It was basically soft core porn with two Japanese girls ripping one anothers clothes off and rubbing one another up, was great. H you'd love it mate ;)
gotta amend that also better than watching any heavyweight boxers...boooorrrring..wonder when a heavy guy that is built to fight will come along?
Unsightly. The females i mean.
I have to be honest I actually really like woman's MMA.
I have no problem with them beating the crap out of each other, I certainly wouldn't want to see a man beat on a woman but two female fighters is fine by me.
As for the contests themselves without exception every single woman's fight that Elite XC have had (up to 4 now I think) has been wildly entertaining.
I actually see it a lot like woman's tennis. In tennis the lack of female power means the serve and volley game is not so pronounced, there are more rallies and the tennis is usually more entertaining to watch.
Woman's MMA is incredibly competitive and entertaining to watch, and the fights tend to go on a little longer than the men's,
They also stand and trade more and you see a lot more punches traded.
It's very similar to watching the lighter weights in boxing, the fighters due to less power hit each other more and the fights are more action packed.
I certainly have no problem with it whatsoever and Gina Carrano especially is always a must watch fighter for me.
Elite XC is kinda new, wait and see what happens if they are around for a year or so, funny Gina and a couple other girls are also attractive, adds a bit more to the fight. but i gotta say they do stand and deliver and they do have heart...
Gina Carrano clearly wasn't in top shape for this fight, but still manged to do more facial damage to her opponent then any other card of the night.
I will be looking forward to seeing her in more fights.
(She's not hard to look at either) :)
I wonder do females have different weight divisions...
yes but only a few compared to men, most seem to sit around 140 lbs although i saw one at 110lbs so i doubt there is much variation...after all at 90 i assume we would see women with the power of small kids beating and not really bruising each other..
