Gosh FUCK! I did the STUPIDEST thing this morning!

This morning at work I was driving a dumptruck, and I drove up to the fuel pumps to fill up. There are 3 pumps, one doesn't work, one puts gasoline in vehicles, and one puts diesel in vehicles. Well, when I got out to get the hose and nozzel, I THOUGHT I at the diesel pump (they are right beside each other). Well, I turn it on, and after pumping about 7 or 8 gallons in, I realize I had the wrong hose and that I've just put 8 gallons of gasoline in a truck that runs off diesel!!! :banghead: Because there was still a good bit of diesel left in the tank, I was able to pull up to the shop where we drained the fuel tank. What makes it so bad is there was about 30 gallons of fuel already in there before I even put fuel in it. :(

I'm not so much pissed off as I am disappointed in myself for making such a STUPID mistake. :mad: It's not like I didn't know which type of fuel the truck ran off of, it was just I wasn't paying attention and grabbed the wrong fuel hose.

But I caught my mistake before any gasoline had the chance to run through the engine so, other than the fuel we had to drain, no harm was done. But shit soup! It was still stupid how I did that. :-\ Has anyone else ever done anything stupid like this that they're not proud of?

I overfilled a woman's propane tank and it started leaking in her car during the ride home.

This was in 1994 @ a Southern States.

I have done the exact same thing Clubber. In all fairness though, the gas station had green fucking handles on the gas pumps.......which is a universal sign for diesel.

My uncle once drove with hose still in his gas tank....
He didn't notice it until he was on the freeway he had to pull over to get it off. :lolhaha:

Even more stupid.

Trucks, Cars, whatever can burn "gasoline" or what we call petrol.

It's only gasoline or petrol cars/trucks that can't burn diesel.

You just wasted a lot of time money and effort:o

That happened to me too with my scooter bike. But it wasn't my fault. The young inexperience gasoline boy fukked up. I was gonna punch him in the mouth, but he's lucky his sister is a good friend of mine.

Thats not true Donny. It is very hard on trucks to burn a significant amount of gasoline in them.

I've seen that happen (but it's usually the women drivers who do that). :-X

If the tank is not fully empty, the gasoline (assuming its the same as European petrol) will burn well with the diesel.

Some plant hire and plant sales often allow petrol to go through their plant as it cleans the inside of the engine and the emission of "black smoke" is reduced, allowing the appearence of a healthy engine to prospective buyers/employers.

We've all had those mornings,your tired,you arent thinking,your trying to run on auto pilot.

You did the right thing. I manage a small fleet of vehicles with a mix of gasoline and diesel vehicles and always worry that someone will do this, BUT hope that thay are smart enough to realise the mistake before driving off and calling me to tell me the vehicle is running bad. Everyone makes mistakes don't stress.

A couple of years ago I saw someone rip the entire front of the bowser... We have LPG gas here, and the pump screws onto your tank. A ladies son went in to pay, and the lady just got back into her car after filling up. The boy ran out, didn't notice the hose still attached to the car, and they drove off, riping half the bowser apart and dragging it a couple of yards through the gas station... It was funny as hell...


The worst i've done lately is accidently fill up with the premium premium gasoline instead of the cheap stuff, on the weekend when it is most expensive... So ended up paying a near fortune for a full tank of gas.
