Why is it forbidden to make money boxing?
Why is it forbidden to make money boxing? I hear fans moan and groan about "Ooooh, he just wants a bigger purse...Oooooh he wants to make more money..." Wouldn't we all do the same? Don't we want a bigger paycheck now? Sure, when it comes to sports, we all want to see certain matches but for the boxer the money is not there but against someone else. It doesn't necessarily make them cowards.
If we were in in the ring, we wouldn't fight someone for a smaller check specially when you don't fight every weekend but 1 or 2 fights per year at the most in a career that lasts until you are around 33.

There is nothing wrong with wanting money. There is nothing wrong with wanting big money either. I know you are talking about that kid who retired. He has enough money today, to feed an army of pigs for a million life times. How much more money does he need? Now that he is filthy rich, he should fight some of the best to cement his legacy. Nothing wrong with that is there? When you make such claims as being the GOAT and then don't back it up, people are going to call you on it. Simple.

Nothing wrong with wanting more money, but some fighters in particular will use money to deliberately price themselves out of a fight that they want to avoid.

You can't get paid too much to get beat up. The people that usually complain about that type of stuff are people with no opportunity to make as much money themselves. Everyone loves to see celebs, the rich, etc fall. People love to laugh at those who loose a million bucks never stopping to think they've never even had a million themselves. In sports the money these guys get is our of our pockets. Pricing yourself out of a fight is something that happens (cough, cough tarver) and it sucks when that happens but other than that as much as you are willing to give me would be my limit. When boxing is all said and done and only the hard core fans even remember you're alive yet you still have bills and medical expenses and a family to support that extra cash you bitched your way into getting will come in handy. Not too many stores are going to remember how brave you were in taking every fight for cheap and facing every clown that call you out. It should be that way especially for us fans, but it isn't. The same guys sitting ringside cheering you up off tickets you gave them are the same one's that will be repo'ing your shit when you get behind in payments.
