Weighted pushups

anybody here put weights on the backs to increase the intensity of the pushups, is it a good idea? or should you just aim for more reps or sets

If pushups are getting too easy, try doing them really slow. Try do them so slow that it takes you a minute to do eight of them, without pausing or stopping.
You might also try doing them one-handed. :)

i really just started to train in boxing, but my varsity baseball coach has anyone who doesn't have trouble with 100 pushups do fingertip pushups. It might not seem like much good for boxing, but it gives us a tighter fist and better grip, which might help a bit

Another variation is to have your hands in different positions. Put your hands wider than normal/put both hands together touching your thumbs together/put hands out above your head or down near your upper abdominals. You'll find that it puts strain on new muscles that weren't really getting used before and will be harder to get your regular amount of reps out.. Just watch for shoulder pain and adjust what your doing if it starts to feel to uncomfortable.
You can also do a push up, pushing off the floor and touch your hands together in the air and then back down. This usually seperates the boys from the men after about 20 reps & is very good for conditioning your arms for explosive punches too.

If all else fails then their is always the bench press.

Yes I do that. It deffinently works. BUt be careful and dont do them to fast. Do them nice and slow.
