Sosa retains WBC world title!
WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa (32-5, 17 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over southpaw Takashi Kunishige (18-3-1, 2 KOs) to retain his title on Saturday night at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Sosa was increasing dominant, battering the game Kunishige mercilessly. The end came in the eighth when Sosa's brutal two-fisted assault prompted referee Hector Afua to stop action at the 1:39 mark. It was Sosa's fifth successful defense.
Lightweight contender Antonio Pitalua (43-3, 37 KOs) scored a fourth round KO over Jose Arely Lopez (22-4). Lopez was down twice in the fourth, the second time for the count. Pitalua was originally slated to face Jose Armando Santa Cruz in a WBC eliminator, but Santa Cruz pulled out with a hand injury.
Welterweight Mia St. John (44-9-2, 18 KOs) won an eight round majority decision over Amy Yuratovac (6-2, 6 KOs) to claim the WBC international crown. Scores 78-74, 79-73 and 76-76.
A battle between NABF flyweight champion Adrian Hernandez (13-1-1, 11 KOs) and former WBC 108lb world champion Erik Ortiz (25-3-1, 14 KOs) ended in a fifth round technical draw due to a bad cut Ortiz suffered on his left eyebrow from a head clash.
Re: Early results from Mexico City...
I heard Juanito Rubillar defeated Omar Nino too. But I don't have any confirmation on that yet.

Condes Loses IBF Crown To Garcia!
CONDES LOSES IBF CROWN TO GARCIA!

Filipino Florante "The Little Pacquiao" Condes lost his IBF minifly title hours ago with a unanimous decision to unbeaten Mexican Raul Garcia in La Paz, Mexico.
Garcia reportedly used a lot of lateral movements and kept himself at a safe distance against the power-punching Condes, although the Filipino managed to score a knockdown in the final round.
A big right knocked down Garcia, but this was too little too late for Condes as he absorbed a 112-115, 110-118, 112-115 loss at the hands of the Mexican challenger.
Reports from Mexico indicate that Condes had his moments in the fight, but these were few and far in between as Garcia deftl neutralized his power and had a great gameplan to control the Filipino power puncher.
Both fighters' faces were marked after the 12-round encounter, which made Garcia the sixth reigning Mexican world champion today.
The loss sent Condes' record dipping to 22-4-1, 20 KO's, while Garcia kept his unblemished mark to 23-0-1, 15 KO's.
Meanwhile, Filipino Juanito Rubillar earned the right to challenge WBC 108-lb champion Edgar Sosa with a split decision over ex-world champ Omar Nino also today in Mexico City.
Rubillar reportedly pressed the action to the rusty Omar Nino, who was inactive for a very long time following his no-contest against Brian Viloria after the Mexican was found to have used a banned substance prior to the fight.
