Question About Roy Jones Jr Vs Glen Johnson KO.
Looking at the video again when Jones hit the canvas the back of his head hit the canvas hard which i think was just as bad as the right hand it self, whats your thoughts ??
I have seen that in previous fights as well like Rocky Lockridge vs Tony Lopez 1, Lockridge didn't hit Lopez that hard with the right hand, but when he hit the canvas hard on the side of his head he was wobbling all over the place.

It also occured in Michael Spinks V Tyson.
I don't believe it would have changed the outcome.

Roy sure did whack his head there.
I would think most KO's, where the head bounces hard of the canvas is because of the damage the punch has done in scrambling the senses beforehand... (does that make sense :beat:)
In other words, the punch receiver would have been badly hurt without hitting their head.

I'm with the other guys - I don't think it changed the outcome, but it made sure he wasn't getting up quite as fast, too.

never seen it but Larry Holmes said that when Earnie Shavers hit him he was out cold - slamming down on the canvas was what woke him up !

Lennox's head bounced vs Rahman

I'd say the punch was probably worse. I've hit my head and gotten a concussion before. Never heard anything about Roy having a concussion. He just ate a great big, leathery sleeping pill is all.

Basically any time you are knocked unconcious it's a concussion. Probably most of the time boxers are as much as buzzed or hurt in a fight they would be slightly concussed. I used to play hockey and received two concussions where I never lost conciousness at all. You don't hear about boxers having them after they lose, because it's basically a given.

Like MarkTKO said, I've heard more stories of people actually being woken up by hitting the canvas. Who knows
