Sparring Tonight. Trainer advice.
Was Sparring a 31 fight Pro last night.
His record is 50-50, but he's still a lot more expiereinced than me. Oh and he's a fully fledged Light Heavy!
He unleashed some serious punishment on me, but I endured it all and scored pretty cleanly myself. He roughed me up fairly well with Dirty stuff.
But tonight I've got to spar him and others again. I've got a family wedding coming up so I want the damage to subside before the weekend.
What do I put on my face to avoid swelling and bruising getting worse.
And waht tactics should I employ as he can cut of the ring well and if I go toe to toe I'm just getting a face full of hardened forehead.
Re: Sparring Tonight. Trainer advice.
If you can get away with it,vaseline the hell out of your face, and try to slide the ropes. Pump the jab like crazy to keep him out. Every time he comes slam, and I do mean SLAM that thing right in his kisser, and go for the nose not the chin,it gets sorer faster, and will discourage him to come at you. When he slow(it also cuts off air) then bring your power stuff more consistently.
If you get to a clinch make a point of getting your chin on his shoulder so he cant use the forehead, and if he's being really dirty, grind the point of your chin in to his collarbone, saps strength and hurts like buggery

Cool, I'm not very good with the rough stuff and usually I can avoid it when I dig with a guy my own weight.
But he's tough, really tough, so I have to improve tonight and crack him.

Good luck Donny. I don't know much about in the ring stuff for saving on bruising and so on, but I do know that if ya got a shiner and some marks before the wedding, right before you leave you can use some of your GF's cover up or foundation and it will hide it.
(don't ask me how I know this, I just do) :p

Ha that concealer stuff? Yeah, I know that LoL.
I think arnica is meant to be pretty good, but I've only used it sparsely once.
Re: Sparring Tonight. Trainer advice.
Ok part of this next thing is legal and part of it isnt.
If your sparring with a ref,or you know were the trainer is watching from
Go to a clinch, try and hook your chin over the back of his shoulder, let your legs go slack, make him carry you for a bit,its exhausting.
Now for the not legal part, figure out which side is away from whoevers running it,and pound the the thighs on the opposite side. You dont have legs, you wont be able to close nearly so well
Re: Sparring Tonight. Trainer advice.
As it turned out, I sparred with Light Heavyweight pro debutant Keith Cresham instead, who turned out to be a complete gentleman and an excellent spar for me.
Keith's one of the nice guys that I look forward to training with again.
