Also having given the story a second read through.
Judging by the last line on that it comes across as though AA thinks Miranda is somewhow involved.. and I quote:

Maybe it wouldn't have happened if Arthur's brother hadn't kicked Miranda. I'm not saying that as a moral to a story because for some reason the whole episode didn't impact me emotionally.

BUT, it could have been done as revenge by someone in the Miranda camp.
