Another Mayweather thread
Am I the only one here that in the midst of his retirement, was not angry, disappointed, etc? What exactly does the guy have left to prove? He's beaten everyone that's been put in front of him, and while the smart money has always been on his side, the boxing community as a whole has been cheering against him in each and every one of those bouts.
That leads me to my theory as to why people are angry and want Mayweather to continue: You don't WANT him to go out on top and undefeated because you dislike him as a fighter, a person, or both. You'd much rather watch him hang around and continue stepping into the ring with the best in the business because you know that sooner or later, one of them is going to catch him on a bad day and tarnish his legacy.
Thoughts?

Im a Mayweather fan and he needs to fight the winner of Margarito vs Cotto no question otherwise he will never hear the end of it, how can he retire when the Welterweight is probably the 3rd or 4th strongest in history ?? if he fights Cotto vs Margarito winner and wins he can then retire and do whatever he wants even though i wouldn't mind him fighting Paul Williams either, it will tarnish his legacy at least not fighting Williams, Margarito, Cotto, when the Welterweight division is probably the hottest division in boxing at the moment. His resume is great no question but he needs to fill in the gap and seal the deal on his legacy.
Re: Another Mayweather thread
there were plenty of big fights which PBF should of made on his rise through the divisions... Mosley, Tszyu, cassamayor, and now Cotto..
imagaine in Mayweather would ov made these fights happen on route to where he is now, then surly he would be considered in the top 5 all time p4p...

Give me a break, none of those three would beat Mayweather and you know it just as well as I do. What's the point in him stepping in the ring and dispatching them just like he did everyone else? I mean really, how many top tier guys does he have to beat before people let him go?

Name one guy in the welterweight division that you would bet on against Mayweather.
I'll wait.

I would give Cotto and Williams a decent chance at Mayweather and just because you think Mayweather would beat those 3 doesn't mean he don't have to fight them, Mayweather has been the favorite against everybody in his entire career doesn't mean he doesn't have to step up to the plate and fight the best Welterweights. I have defended Mayweather countless times but theres no way he can retire when the Welterweight division is this hot and leave all these question marks, i think people have stated many times if he beats the winner of Margarito vs Cotto then he can retire.

Name any fighter that Mayweather has fought that you would bet against Mayweather ??
Re: Another Mayweather thread
i dont think mayweather would ov been a big favourite against Tszyu if they fought...
Re: Another Mayweather thread
Mayweather has done a lot, but he can always do more. A win over Cotto would be very good for his all-time standing.
I don't buy his retirement anyway. If he has hung them up for good, well good for him for getting out of the sport with his health and being set financially for life.
Most fighters aren't so fortunate.

I think you're missing the point here: He's already proven himself time and time again, and sooner or later the shit has to stop.
I know boxing fans, and I know that even if he were to beat the winner of Cotto-Margarito, that you guys would want him to fight someone else. Deny it up and down if you want, but you know in your heart of hearts that that's exactly what will/would happen, and do you want to know the worst part? You'd probably be screaming for it along with those people.

Well as for how permanent his " retirement " is, that's a different story. Would I be content with him retiring at this point? Absolutely. Do I think he's going to stay retired? Probably not. My point still stands though that no one should be giving him shit, and that he's proven enough to where he should be able to do what he wants to do without recieving shit loads of negative criticism for it.

Yes but your point is that because you don't think those 3 fighters can beat Mayweather you don't think Mayweather should fight them when thats the wrong logic IMO. Because like i said Mayweather has been the favorite for his entire career just like Jones Jr and Whitaker was and he always will be but it doesn't mean he doesn't have to fight the most dangerous Welterweights in the hottest division in boxing at the moment. Im not a Mayweather hater like i said im a Mayweather fan and i have his career set along with his amateur fights, but come on he has to fight to finish his career with at least one victory over Margarito vs Cotto winner. I don't think any real boxing fan will have any complaints if he beats the winner of Cotto vs Margarito, you will still get some haters but you do with every fighter and there the kind of fans that even if a certain fighter they hate beat King Kong they still wouldn't be happy you just ignore ignorant fans like that.

See, I can't agree with you there, because I know how things are and how boxing fans work. Based on how you feel and what you know now you may think a win over the Margarito-Cotto winner is a satisfactory end to his career, but a few months after that hypothetical fight took place you may have a completely different opinion.

Yes but i could turn that around and say if Cotto beat Margarito and Williams would you still be satisfied that Mayweather is still retired in say a years time ??
