Re: Calcium for the bones
hey man i dont know about using a calcium supplement but i know i drink about half a galon of milk at supper and some more during the day.
Re: Calcium for the bones
^^^ Is that just mainly because you like milk and would drink it anyway? or do you find it an important ingredient in supporting a boxing lifestyle?
Re: Calcium for the bones
^^^ I know that kind of sounds like a lame a$$ question, but their is so many posts on here from people starting out in boxing and asking about training regimes and exercises and even nutrition but you never hear any of the seasoned pro's saying "and make sure you drink a lot of milk too to ensure strong bones". So i'm really wondering how important most of you consider it if your serious about taking your boxing to the next level.
Re: Calcium for the bones
This is strictly my opinion, but I'd say it's a good idea for any athlete to make sure they get enough calcium and or dairy in their diet.
I don't know how much of it is genetic and how much is related to the amount of milk I drank growing up, but I've never broken a bone. I played soccer for several years, inline hockey and ice hockey all throughout my teenage years, football throughout middleschool and high school. I grew up like a lot of guys.... jumping bikes off of the biggest ramps I could make/find, climbing trees, jumping off rooftops, etc. I had an older brother that out weighed me by 50 pounds or so the majority of my life that I got into fights with all the time.... the point is that I should have broken half the bones in my body at one point or another but the worst I've ever had was a sprain.
I grew up drinking around a gallon of milk every day. Genetics or dairy products? I'll never know but I'd say that extra calcium is a good idea (as long as your body can process it... kidney stones are a bitch if your kidney's can't handle the extra calcium). Not to mention the added protein that you get from dairy products...
Re: Calcium for the bones

Probably should have said that I switched from % to skim milk when Iwas about 12. That was the age that I really started to understand the relationship between performance and training/diet. If you're drinking whole milk, a gallon of milk a day is roughly equivalent to 2 days worth of fat based on a 2000 calorie diet.
Re: Calcium for the bones
I'm drinking choclate milk at the moment it is 99% fat free and has 2 grams more protein then regular milk.
Re: Calcium for the bones
I try to drink [i]at least]/i] two glasses of milk per day.
