Does anyone have any stories on fighters in history who looked dog poor in the gym but when it came to fight night usually produced the goods to win. Also looking at the flip side of this discussion is there any fighters in history who looked world class in the gym but on fight night struggled to produce the goods?
I know Roberto Duran hardly trained but he did alright for himself and Audrey Harrison had the potential to be a top 10 fighter but never really lived up to expectation
apparantly ALi looked terrible in Gym/sparring, he would always save the best stuff for the ring and just lay back and defend in the gym.
Ali was indeed one.
His sparring was entirely defensive so he looked like he was taking beatings.

I remember Manny Steward (did he train him for a bit?) saying Pryor was awful at sparring and got beat by most of them but come fight night he was totally a different fighter.

Between 71 & 74 Ali trained for Frazier, Norton re-match Frazier re-match and Foreman. In 75 he didnt train for antone in 76 he trained for Norton.
