Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
This fight was another heavyweight stinker. I know sykes was meant to be just a warm up fight for Povetkin but he didnt even attempt to put up a fight. Every time skyes got touched by a glove he was looking at the ref for a way out, the guy was literally terrified of taking a punch!!
When sykes went back to his corner at the end of the 3rd he was almost in tears and the knockout blow in the fourth was not even a clean punch it was more of a push, and then he lay there looking up at the ref in hope that he would help him up off the canvas, it was an absolute joke.
I do rate Povetkin, to have beaten the likes of byrd, chambers, donald and friday ahunanya within his first 15 fights is very impressive but he aint the hardest hitting heavyweight out there.
Imagine if sykes was in there with a deadly puncher like a prime tyson he would have shit in his shorts!!!Sykes should hang up his gloves after this showing
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
Can't wait for Haye to give these fat wankers fits. He is the only Heavy I would pay to see right now too.
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
I watched it yes. It was an absolute joke. Whatever anyone says about last weeks fight at least they both turned up and tried to win. Sykes tonight didn't even try to throw a punch he was a total joke and should be stripped of his licence and have his purse for the fight held back.
On a totally different matter though I only see Klitschko winning the Povetkin fight because Povetkin just kind of plods forward and to me looks taylor made for Klitschkos 1-2 and will imo get knocked out!
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
yeh i agree kel, haye is a hell of an exciting fighter that can bring some of the glamour back to the HW divison but im not to sure if he has the chin to deal with a real heavy hitting heavyweight. He was down against mormerick and the thompson ko did show his vulnerability, but i reckon a lot of that was due to him draining his body to make the cruiser divison coz he was a big fella for the that weight.
I dont think he should jump straight in against one of the top guys yet and he def aint ready to go straight for wlad yet.
I would like to see him take on danny williams in an all english clash that would generate some interest and then maybe after that get it on with Tua whos way past his best but is still got the power to be dangerous.
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
I reckon povetkin will give wlad real problems, he didnt look very impressive against thompson. The best way to beat wlad is to put the pressure on and get inside of his jab and keep him on the back foot. Povetkin works hard and throws decent combinations and will push him all the way.
If he can take klitschkos punches and take him into the later rounds i think he wil out work him and tire him out.
povetkin wins by tko when wlad runs out of gas in later rounds
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
Yeah I watched. Very disappointing. Sykes did a Tony Thompson = Meaning very good first round but the first time he was hit hard, he lost the will to win. He was clearly looking for a way out and when he was dropped the last time he didn´t try to get up. Strange refereeing by the way...the ref didn´t count several knockdowns that were from bodyshots and clearly not slips.
It´s funny about Povetkin...it´s hard to tell exactly how he does it but he does it well. Meaning he doesn´t have a lot of power OR speed. I guess it´s that unsurpassed amateur background. These guys have been doing nothing but boxing since kindergarden and know exactly how to place every shot. I guess it´s precision punching more than anything else that makes Povetkin so effective.
Hard to tell how he will do against Wlad. I would say he´s too small and also I don´t see what Povetkin has that Sultan Ibragimov didn´t have. They´re quite similar to me. Then again, you never know. Povetkin has seen it all in his amateur days, plus Wlad is looking vulnarable to me and has for a long time. Looking forward to the fight.

I think that he'll make Wlad look good. He has never been in with anyone who hits as hard as Wlad so I expect him to walk into a good shot off Wlad that will either knock him out or seriously hurt him. Problem is if it is the latter he may well just go into survival mode for the rest of the fight and it could turn into another hugfest.
Anyway its all just delaying the inevitable when Haye gets in with them we will have a new heavyweight champ and I think that it will take Vitali to come back as good as he left to have a chance of beating Haye. Although that said Solis beat Haye as an amateur and could well be a decent opponent in the future, still see haye winning though.
Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
Good point and you may be right. His last 4 opponents....Donald, Byrd, Chambers, Sykes - all featherfisted guys. I hadn´t thought of that. Povetkins management may be hiding a weakness in the chin maybe
By the way, for those who saw the fight : I hate to be homophobic because there´s too much of that going around, but wasn´t that the GAYEST rendition of the US national anthem you have ever seen?? If I was American I would press charges ;D

Re: Did any of you guys watch the Povetkin fight?
Povetkin is a good technical boxer but his power is overrated, his handspeed isn't very great, and he doesn't seem to take a punch too well.....Eddie Chambers swole his eye up BIG TIME with a counter shot that MAY have equalled the power of Wlad's jab.
Wlad vs Povetkin should be good if Wlad let's his hands go early....he should go for the kill from the get go

I honestly think that he will be a good matchup for Wlad because he just Plods forward and to me will walk straight into the right hand of Wlad and I don't think even the biggest Klitschko hater can deny that his right hand is like an Hydrogen bomb when it connects.
