My real thoughts: Cotto would never beat Margarito
Now that I have stirred up enough shit. There is no way Cotto would ever beat Margarito IMO, sure he was ahead on my card 7 rounds to 3 going into the 11th, but we really found out that is the breaking point for Cotto, while Mosley didn't throw enough punches, Abdullaev quit, and Ndou couldn't punch hard enough, Tony did all these things. Cotto because of what makes him so great makes him vulnerable to Magarito. Cotto's inability to not be a warrior and clinch more will always cost him against a guy like Margarito. If cotto were to redo the first 6 rounds and then hold Margarito more off the ropes sure he could potentially win, but he never would. He will always square up off the ropes and fight back when he gets tired. If Cotto was more durable he might be a Duran caliber fighter, but he isn't more durable. That shouldn't take too much away from him, do you think Hearns if he couldn't hurt Margarito would be able to stay away for 12 rounds? I think you either need to be tough like Margarito with better skills(Clottey, Mosley), or be able to move around and have a really good chin like Mayweather, Leonard, Paul Williams.
The ony thing that really sucks from all this is that Mayweather will never have a reason to fight Cotto that would be one of hte most tactical fights we may ever see, but it will never happen now. Cotto showed tons of heart in this fight, and I say he does better against the Paul Williams' of the sport then Margarito will in the future.

And for those reasons cotto is still admired after this fight. He showed a lot of skill and didn't hold. He fought to the last drop of energy. Cotto's stock actually went up in this loss. I viewed him as somewhat of a slacker in the shane fight. I don't think that anymore.

Yup, to me he has always seemed like a slacker, I know this will light a fuel in his ass and he will take fights very serious. I believe Cotto can come back and beat Tony.

Jesus, does this guy have an off switch?
Every post he starts claims its about something else but always ends up on mayweather.
Fucking hell enough all ready we get it.
Re: My real thoughts: Cotto would never beat Margarito
I agree Cotto would never beat him.
If they ever fight again Margarito will stop him quicker. It's not like Cotto got sparked out by something he didn't see.
He lost fighting his best fight. I doubt you ever really recover from that.

Cotto fought great, but wrong fight for this guy.
Easy fix.
NO backfooting it. Circles...Power Jab... confusion for the Club fighter UD on points.
Dude whoare you? Why do you keep calling Margarito a club fighter? If he is a club fighter then what is Cotto who got demolished?
Get over it already...and go put a shirt on, your pale ass is giving me a headache.

Who me? What fight did everybody want to come from this fight? Not Margarito-ODLH, not really Cotto-ODLH, but Cotto-Mayweather don't hate on me for mentioning it, I wasn't the one who started yesterday stating that FLoyd was afraid of Tony, and that Tony would kick his ass... Mayweather is always on peoples minds when thinking about WW, because he is the best WW retired or not, and he can still come back and change the division.

Miguel Cotto did try and box in fact he was boxing for majority of the fight but Antonio Margarito would constantly close the distance and not to sound nasty here but of course Miguel Cotto and his camp would disagree do you actually think they would say they would lose in a rematch ?

Miguel boxed yes, but on the backfoot. He has to come forward. Sorry, but as bad as Margarito is, he is not immune from a nice jab which Cotto has. Also Cotto will work the body more next time and not lay on the ropes.
Miguel Cotto can't come forward he can't fight Antonio Margarito on the inside and he for certain can't put Antonio Margarito on the back foot and as for Miguel Cotto's jab he landed plenty i believe he landed 100 plus of them so its not like he wasn't using it the thing i agree on is that he needs to go to the body more because he for certain didn't do his homework to the body.

Cotto's mistake was thinking he was onto to something with this new backfoot thing and it failed him. He needs to keep Tony from punching by punching more and not moving back ever. He can and will do this.
Joshua Clottey has a better chin than Miguel Cotto does i don't think Joshua Clottey stopped Antonio Margarito from attacking he gave him some problems but he didn't stop him attacking and your also forgetting how badly Joshua Clottey faded in the late rounds............
Antonio Margarito does lose rounds in the early going and has lost many of the early rounds in the past his style isn't about getting guys out of there early his style is to wear you down late break your will amongst other things.

It isn't new at all.
Go back and watch the Cotto/Ceballos fight and Cotto basicly faught Ceballos the same way. Not with all his might that he used against Tony though. I am sure they will find another game plan and maybe stay in the pocket more and clintch before Tony can get off any shots. Cotto tried it the tough man way and It failed, I am sure he will find a smarter way even if it means having to hug Tony for the last few rounds ;D or running like Sugar Ray Leonard did against Duran II ;D If running and hugging all night is good enough for the so called pound for pound king, then it should be ok for a limited fighter such as Miguel Cotto ;)

I'm pleased you have had a chance to see things better now, I was planning a response for you calling me a 'dumbass' and questioning my following of Boxing, but I won't go into that now, as I see this thread as an apology.
I agree with you, Mayweather has put even more distance between himself and Cotto, however, styles make fights and I feel that IF Cotto and Mayweather were to fight it would be a tactical affair, and I have no doubts Cotto would beat Mayweather, Cotto to win a MD.
Re: My real thoughts: Cotto would never beat Margarito
Margarito beats Cotto 8 times from 10 IMO.
