calculating punching power
Hey all, I have a theory. A while back when I was in school I learned something like mass x velocity = force (newtons). Using this theory, I'm wondering if it is possible to calculate the force of your puches. What I'd do is measure the mass(weight) of my right fist (ie 1 lbs). Then measure the distance my straight right punch travels (ie: 1 meter). Then figure out the speed of my punches using trials and some math. Multiply it all together and then I got the force of my punches. What do you all think would it work? what are the flaws? has anyone tried it?
Re: calculating punching power
well the first thing is your body weight. you throw it in your punches too ya know.
but if you weigh like 80 kg you dont throw a full 80 kg in it so you cant put that in your calculation.
and then you have the force of your muscle on the moment of impact when you flex them.
and then you got the argg never mind it just aint the way of knowing how hard you punch.
but there are machines that can tell your /psi
so if you really wanna know i think you have to look for 1 of those
Re: calculating punching power
Yea it's tough to find the mass because you use a lot of your body mass if you punch properly, some use more than others. Finding velocity would be a nice pain in the ass too. The best way is with one of them PSI machines...I've always wanted to try one but theyre probably expensive.
Re: calculating punching power
well it may not give your actual power but, it would give you an idea of where you rank among other people.
Re: calculating punching power
pity its all about body position and using your legs .
Re: calculating punching power
i would like to say its possible but i just dont see how the math works out... i see wat ur saying but some people use the legs and it would calculate out in a weird way... i dunno man.. i doubt it tho
Re: calculating punching power
it could be used to calculate natural punching power. A punch that you dont put any technique into no movement into. It could give you an idea of your natural punching ability
Re: calculating punching power
didn't read it myself(no time,i will read it later)but maybe this helps
