Williams - Tony not looking good for this year.
Since a Paul Williams-Antonio Margarito rematch isn't in the cards this year, HBO and Williams promoter Dan Goossen are working on a fall "Boxing After Dark" doubleheader. Williams (34-1, 25 KOs) would defend his welterweight belt in the main event, possibly against mandatory challenger Michael Jennings (33-1, 16 KOs) of England. It would also include rising heavyweight contender Cristobal Arreola (24-0, 21 KOs), but don't count on seeing him against David Tua, a fight often discussed. The sides are far apart on money and it does not fit the budget of an opening bout on "BAD."
.. Williams can win this comfortably in my opinion.
Jennings is a good, honest proffesional with talent.. and he is bigger then domestic and europian welterweight level.. but in my opinion the welterweight division as far as title holders is very strong at present and its just bad timing for Mikey. Definately interested in Jennings showing an honest nights work and getting in the mix and earning himself some good money in future with the likes of quintana and the rest of the divisions good fighters.. hes a good fighter and deserves to earn some good money.
Re: Williams - Tony not looking good for this year.
Michael Jennings ? how the hell is he getting a shot ? Michael Jennings is decent fighter with good movement and quick hands........
And he may give Paul Williams a few problems early but really and truthfully its a mismatch.
Re: Williams - Tony not looking good for this year.
I was really hoping to see Williams/Margarito II asap. I like Paul but Tony's my boy and I want to see him avenge that loss, if he can. It will be a much more contested battle the next time around; as there is so much on the line.
Never heard of Jennings, but good luck. Is this guy going to be the WW version of Gary Lockett when he gets here?;D

wbo mandatory challenger my friend.
you know how it goes with brit/warren fighters and the wbo being kind with theyr ratings towards them.
in all fairness i can let this one go to be honest i think jennings is one of the better ones to be ranked out of the brit fighter crowd.

nahh hes more of a contender then lockett for sure..
no dis to lockett.. but jennings is at a stage where he has talent and its a throw up whether he can hang.. and lockett was an utter mismatch from the papers bieng signed.

Michael Jennings ? WTF !
Whats the point in that fight. It s just getting in the way and delaying meaningful fights IMO. Paul might wana scrap his belt if theyre gonna mess him around like this.
Re: Williams - Tony not looking good for this year.
How is it that the wbo never seems to have anything but shit mandatories

Michael Jennings is much better than Gary Lockett Michael Jennings has good movement quick hands and good stamina...........
He can fight for a full 12 rounds at a hard pace he will give Paul Williams a few problems early.

Thanks; like I said I haven't ever seen him and for some reason I got the Lockett comparison in my head.
