Tip for snappier jab

This is one thing i've been taught that really helps you to develop a snappy jab and also good for maintaining it.

While shadowboxing, for a minute or so, throw your jab out at half speed, or even 1/3 speed, and as soon as it's fully extended, bring it back in as fast as you can.Â* So basically your punch is in slow motion while extending out, and then whips back in in fast forward to its starting position.

Practice it for a while & you'll find when you go back to jabbing at the usual speed, it snaps out their & back where it started in less than a batter of an eye...

As I said, it's an excelent way to develop a quick snappy jab that doesn't leave you open for long, & when you find your jab is starting to get sloppy from fatigue, it programs those muscles to whip that left hand right back to it's defensive position no matter HOW poorly your throwing it out there.

Just something, does everyone learn that anyway, twice as fast back as the punch is thrown. As long as its back to where you guard. And also turning over your hand to be palm down, near the end of the punch, gives it a bit of a kick.

I guess everyone might probably does learn it. I hadn't read it here though so I thought someone may benifit from it. Especially those training at home who havn't been able to get to a gym, which I know their is a few people on here without a trainer.

Can you practice this with crosses and hooks as well as the jab?

^^^ Yeah, anything that helps your muscles remember to get those hands back to a defensive position after throwing any punch is good practice.

thats a clever idea mate. now try this, start with your arm out straight, and withdraw it slowly to your body, then snap it out as fast as you can, and pul it in slowly. its the opposite way round, might work on extension speed!
