Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
Well i have finally done a little sparring and it was with a taller guy with a decent left jab. Im a southpaw so i found that I could do certain things to neutralize his jab.
i) he throws his left jab
ii) i parry with my right hand
iii) i immediately throw my left cross then step down and to my right and give a right hook to his body
iv) then i pivoted out to my right
it got to the point that he didnt want to thro his jab anymore. He didnt have the confidence with it after a while. i got him with this time and time again because he coudnt adjust to the fact that i did it automaticaly without hesitating or thinking. i just did it automatically.
I practiced this on the bag over and over until i could do it without hesitating.Â*

Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
dunno but southpaws own :)
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
My brother is a southpaw, he parrys the jab then counters, all with his right hand, it is very effective against fighters who have never fought a southpaw.
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
i cn switch from orthadox to south paw mid fight this confuses the fuck out of the other guy lol
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
yea i can go either way, but im a natural southpaw...and lately i've been only focusing on that stance.
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
Yes that move is very natural and easy to use for a south paw
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
its pretty good bein south eh? giving ur opponent a challenge
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
If i was a southpaw i would side step the othadox jab to the right (or slip), then give a powerful right hook. But not all southpaws are right handed
Also against any jab a good counter is beating them to the punch, just hit them with jab first works well if you are fast and or have a greater reach
Southpaws should always watch out for the right hand when vs an orthadox, as this tactic of throwing right hands seems to dominate southpaws (orth vs sou)

But not all southpaws are right handed, well you just meet your first.2 question,s when throwing a jab i was taught when young to`keep your arm pparallelso its harder to telegraph but i find aalot of ppl llift they elbow a fraction out iss this a good way to,ssecondshirtless fighters i was also taught to watch the oopponentsbelly button the way it moves determines the direction of punch what r your views.
Re: Advice for Southpaws--Countering off left jab
For straights you should not lift the elbow, the same for hooks
It makes the punch fractionaly slower, wastes energy and telegraphs the punch, alot of boxers lift their elbow but this is from a bad habit rather than trying to lift their elbow.
Most common on peoples jab because they are told to corkscrew it (So the jab is like the cross and lands with a horizontal fist) , but if you are going to do this, do it right at the end of a jab. However the reason for the corkscrew is that the weakest punch (jab), lands harder but it is unnecessary
