Brewster to face Batchelder!
Brewster to face Batchelder!
Former WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster 33-4 (29 KO) will make his return at Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati, OH, taking on rugged contender Danny Batchelder 25-5-1 (12 KO) in a twelve-round bout for the vacant NABA heavyweight title. Brewster, who has been out of action a little over a year, is more than ready to jump back into the heavyweight mix. He feels the sabbatical has reinvigorated him and given him the hunger to regain the heavyweight championship. "The break gave me time to think about my career and get a better appreciation for the fight game," Brewster says. "You will see a different Lamon Brewster than before." The card which is billed as 'The Return,' will also feature rising talents such as Aaron Pryor Jr. and Rashad Holloway, who will be fighting in separate bouts, as well as other local fighters. Brewster's own promotional company Relentless Events in conjunction with Colin Bates' CBelieve and Andrew Williams' R&R Promotions will be promoting the card.

I like Brewster, but I wonder how much he still has in the tank...If he has any trouble with Batchelder or even loose he should seriously consider retirement...But lets hope for the best...
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
I like Brewster, but he should stay retired before he gets himself hurt.
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
Brewster is going to end up as one of them guys who doesn't know when to quit, which seems to be half the heavyweight division these days. He took a pretty rough beating in the second klit fight over 6 rounds before his corner stoped it. he should just stay retired because he made his career being able to absorb more punishment than the other guy and I don't think that style is a good idea for him anymore, not that it ever was neccessarily but it worked.
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
I hope nothing permanent happens in this fight.

Too late he's already been completely fucked up by Lyakhovich and Wladimir.
He's 35 he has it in him for one last go round. I think he could be a stiff test for Haye or Solis or Dimitrenko or Arreola. He's not going to win a belt anytime soon although if he got a shot vs Valuev or Ruiz he could do something

That's what I mean, man, Wlad and Sergei did a number on him, and though he might be good test for Haye or Arreola, he doesn't need to battered around by the young bucks.
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
it depends on which Brewster steps in the ring. The one who turned into the Tazmanian Devil on Andrew Golota could, the one who whethere hell to tap Wlad's chin could, but the one who stood in front of Wlad like a moo-cow couldn't, the one who played paddycake with his sparring partner (and lost, IMO) couldn't. I'm leaning towards the latter. I think Lamon is retirement-minded and can't will himself to do the things stylistically he needs to do to win fights at the upper echelon. Once I see what he does against Batchelder I'll be better equipped to say for sure.
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
Wow how does one get a shot at the naba title coming off a loss. Brewster must really be something
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
Have you people forgotten to check the opponent?
Brewster is making a comeback bout. The belt means little and the opponent has done little as well.
Brewster may well win this.

The NABA title is USUALLY a coveted title by the younger prosepects of the division.
I would really like to see Lamon Brewster vs Calvin Brock or another top level fighter just so they can earn a shot at a big title and Lamon can make big money before he calls it quits.
Lamon Brewster vs Ray Austin or Jameel McCline would be decent just from a fan's perspective, maybe a good ESPN fight.

I'd like McCline as a tune-up and then Brock.
Re: Brewster to face Batchelder!
Are people fearing the worst here? Batchelder is a very boring fighter with a very low workrate and when he does throw he likes to smother you up so you can't get anything else off. Brewster needs to return to form about half way to win this really, he can easily snore a decision away from Batchelder. Toney probably had his worst night ever in a boxing ring against Batchelder (I thought it was just Bachelder???) and still won pretty comfortably imo.
Brewster is an exciting fighter when he's on, I know he has an eye problem that is hampering him, hope he has that settled. I imagine Germany must like him because of his fight with Krasniqi right Johnny?
