Calzaghe says this is the last fight
Calzaghe to retire after Jones Jr fight - Yahoo! Eurosport UK
I was really hoping that he would stick around for one more and beat Pavlik as the ultimate swansong. Perhaps its just not meant to be. I cant say im not dissapointed but he might change his mind. He's said a lot of things and then turned around and done the other. :-\
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
you should know by now boxers talk utter crap . eg.
Hopkins - i will retire at 40 i promised my mother.
ODLH - in his twenties said " i dont plan on being around when im 30 "
blah blah fucking blah , just wait and see is my advise.
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
I think he's saying this just to get his fight with Jones more publicity. It wasnt long ago he said he would go back down to 168 after the Jones fight.
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
I think when it comes to the crunch Calzaghe knows that if he does not fight Pavlik there will always be sombody saying that he ducked him.
If Calzaghe and Pavlik both look good in there next fights then it would mean mega bucks for both fighters.
I think it will happen.;D(I hope)
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
Joe loves that fact he is earning real elite money and should he and Pavlik win a Calzaghe/Pavlik fight would be huge and seen as Joe is keeping his WBO 168lb title it could be marketed as two undefeated fighters fighting for the Liniar 168lb title.

I agree.Calzaghe has waited for too long to get to the position he is in now to just retire when there is a natural mega fight out there for him.
A fight in which I think he would win.
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
Ive also seen Joe say he would retire at 30 financially secure.

If the fight would be at 168 his 168 and 175 titles will be one the line and it will be the first time in over 50 years that a fighter held 3 class belts at the same time when Pavlik knocks him out.

Fantasyland!
Believe Crapzaghe and i am convinced you all believe in fairies!
So his hand is fine by August 14th but can't fight 5 weeks later on September 20th? He is stalling because that means Jones will be inactive for nearly 11 months by fight time in November! He is more than a little worried about Jones jr who just may have one more magical performance left in him.
Re: Calzaghe says this is the last fight
he will fight again. if he wins there's still big money fights. if he loses i don't think he will retire on a loss
