Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Olympic boxing scoring has always been pathetic joke IMO and always will be, unless and untill they put hi-tech sensors inside the gloves and let a supercomputer do the COMPUTING.
How could the Aussie kid rock the Cuban which results in the Cuban getting a standing 8- count, but the Aussie geting no points? Say what?
The judges stink out the place to the point where I will no longer watch this crock of crap. :(:(

Heavy emphasis has been placed on contact, not impact, although I agree the judging has been crap.

Boxing officials seem to do everything possible to ruin the sport. Anything they can do wrong (pro or amateur) they do.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
the scoring is really bad
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
I've only watched a couple fights and that was enough.
It's completely shit, according the fights I saw only 5 punches were landed in each.
I hate Olympic boxing, it's the Eurovision Song Contest of sport.
Winning a medal at it means virtually nothing nowadays, it's just a matter of who the judges want to put through it seems.
You may as well roll dice to see who gets the medals, ability has virtually nothing to with it.
Frankie Gavin got off lightly, now he can put any thoughts of wasting another 4 years for the London Olympics and start making some real money and having a proper career in the pro's.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
Yeah it really seems to have changed for the worse even though it was always crap anyway .

Olympic boxing is ruined.
Re: Am I the only one who thinks Olympic Boxing Scoring is beyond pathetic?
I actually think, in many ways, it's harder to win an Olympic boxing gold than it is a World championship. With the Olympics your up against the best young hungry fighters in the whole world. Cuba etc and other fighters from the eastern bloc don't turn pro. In a way there is a purity about Olympic boxing that professional boxing lacks. They are not getting paid, they are there to represent there country.
To me Olympic boxing is like the Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard university of the noble art. If you can make it there you can make it anywhere You only need to look at past Olympics champions and past fighters that done well at the Olympics and then seeing how they fared in the pro ranks to realise that Olympic boxing is a brilliant starting point for any pro fighter.
I think this scoring system is the best out there rather than the old cloak and dagger (Hands in the cards at the end) scoring system of the past. With this system you ACTUALLY get to see what's going on. Besides when we are old and grey and you have your grand kids next to you, what do you think they would be more impressd by ? You telling them that you were a world boxing champion (But got beat later) or if you got your gold medal out and told them that you won this in the Bejing Olympics in 2008.

I can awnser this one
Even though it isnt Olympic level, the gold medal I have from martial arts hanging in the gym does not impress my son one whit
The Toughman Championship Jacket his mom won impresses the hell out of him

Definitely, there is only 1 Gold medal per weight class. Look at professional boxing you can have up to 10 recognized World Champions per division.
